So the guy who works in the office next to me rolled his 2nd Gen tundra. My question is will the Tundra's V8 fit into a 1991 FJ80? I can imagine most of the engine mounts would have to be custom fabbed. Has anyone tried this or any other similar Toyota V8 swaps?

Do a search, lots to read.

There's a guy by me who put a 2UZ-FE (4.7L) in his 1991.

I would love to see that conversion. However the donor stuff is normally pretty expensive. Also not sure on the Tundra but on the 200 series the transfer case front drop is on the wrong side.

Also that motor is pretty wide. It would take some major surgery to get that done.

They're both on the wrong side.

Why did everyone go to driver-side drop front diff/transfer cases?

Howdy! So take the Tundra axles too. Custom mounts thru out and your good?!?! John

Isn't there some issue with oil pan clearance as well?

Just checked the prices on those motors. 14k for a used one.
i could get a pretty nice cruiser for that price. If only i was filthy rich and had lots of time on my hands.
Still would be very sick to see one in an 80
could have over 500hp with Eaton's supercharger

wow cool idea but

Not only fitting but upgrading too. All that juice could be rough on the cruiser , no?

well if you've already gone in for the swap you might as well beef up the entier drive train.
would probably make a very nice sleeper
Land Cruiser by day and a supra smokin rocket by night
a fast and the furious movie waiting to happen?

i've always thought about what it would be like to have that 5.7 in the '80. that super charger would yield some WICKED power! maybe too much for the axles?

It sounds like a good swap and if you have the time and the patience and the skills then I say go ahead.
For most toyota motors are just too expensive to do a swap like this, then there's the problem with the off set, which could be cured with a tundra rear axle and a dana 60 up front.

i don't think it could be done for less than $20k, but anything can be done.

Yeah depending on how much he can get the engine for.
Plus the birfs are toast with that much power

I would so love to do this myself... maybe in a few years...

500 HP is a bit much for the drivetrain I think. The stock 381 HP would be plenty (only an 80% increase over a 1FZ). I have been wanting to do this since I saw a prototype 5.7.

The cubic cash requirements have been a bit if a sticking point however. :crybaby:

I don't care how much power you can get out of a 6. Nothing sounds better than a V8, period.

Agreed, and slap some longer duration cams in there with some tuning for a nice loppy idle :) can't beat that
