What's the deal with the powder coating quality and longevity concerns?
Anyone ever talk to the guys at 4X4 Labs about that?
Biggest problem we have with the powder coating is it ALWAYS gits scratched/chipped in shipping, even though Luke does seem to crate them up really well.

What I did was get a local powder coater. Off-Duty Powder Coaters in Weatherford, TX did an amazing job for me and the price was really good. That way no scratches from shipping.

Just picked mine up from UPS. Worth the wait welds are a work of art.

Damn, cant believe i missed this.

Spoke with Ryan today. My bumper is all packed up and ready to be shipped out!!! I ordered on 7/19 and about 5 weeks into I asked for a 2" hitch receiver be built into the tire side swing arm. That way I can swing the bikes out with the arm without having to remove the bikes and still be able to access the hatch. So about 7 weeks on the build time with a last moment add-on. Can't wait to get mine. Mine was for a 5th gen 4Runner and I think those probably take a little bit more time than the 80-series bumpers because of the higher cut sides. After looking at all the completed ones I'm stoked to finally get mine.

Interested to see how this works out. would love a swingarm that could support a thule T2 or something for bikes.

I'll try to get some photos when it's installed. Unfortunately I'm sort of in the middle of a move right now so won't get around to installing until next month or so. You can ask 4x4 Labs to do it during the build or you can also have it fab'd on later as well but I just figure it's cheaper and easier to do it from the get go. The good thing about the extra hitch is that if you have it installed on the tire swing side it really doesn't stick out any further than your tire so you don't really even notice it too much.

I saw an 80-series cruiser in Idaho (with Cali plates) with the tire carrier & add-on receiver hitch on the driver side and jerry can holder with a bottom mounted propane tank attachment on the passenger side. Next day I called up Ryan and asked to have the 2" receiver added on and he said no problem. I'm liking the idea of the jerry can holder and propane tank mount as well but for now I'll run the ladder as that'll make it easier to get to my roof rack. Thing is there's so many options these guys can come up with that aren't known about or posted. It's one of those things where if you dream it up they can probably fab it.

Here's an 80 series that has the 2" receiver add-on for reference

Recieved my bumper last week. Haven't had time to start figuring out how to setup the single swing.

Bolted up and ready to go. Now I need to test my new departure angle and rip all the paint off.

Any tips on compressing these 150lb gas springs?
I used a harbor freight clamp and put it on both ends of the strut. With one end of the strut attached, I tightened the clamp slowly until I could push the other end of the strut on the ball. It's a bit tricky but works.

Thankx. My early Slee works OK with a bolt on hitch, I know I have offloaded a over 5000 back there. But I need to rent some different trailers, and those renters want to see a class 3 reciever back there.😎

Easiest way I found was to loosen arms on spindles enough to lift them above the stop to rotate them enough to connect the strut and then use the leverage of the arm after the struts are attached to close the arm and let it slide back into place tighten arm spindle nut back and boom you’re done.

Can I cut my crossmember and drive around until the bumper comes in or does it provide some structural support?

Do not cut it until you have it, that's a structural part

Is there such a thing as a 'quiet' rear bumper? I've never heard one, or heard of one. I guess one could be padded in all the right places, but seems it should come that way.
A rattly bumper is not ninja enough.
