I'm about to buy the 4x4 labs crossover steering for doing a SOA on my '85 60. My only decision to make it whether to go with GM 1 ton ends or 80 ends. Luke told me that the GM 3/4 ton ends have a better working angle. My roommate told me that from what he researched the 80 ends have a better working angle, and that is why the high steer he put on his SAS '89 pickup used 80 ends. I'd like to stay Toyota as much as possible, even though I plan on swapping a Cummins 4BT into her in the near future.
I need to decide which ends will be stronger, last longer, and have a better working angle. I haven't looked into prices, but I feel like the GM ends will be cheaper then the 80 ends. So 80 ends or GM ends?

Luke IS THE MAN, He has done countless hours of research on this subject- I would listen to him!

most likely six and one half dozen. Both are good and will last you a very long time.

1 ton ends can be purchased at the local quickie mart..

(and, just for clarification, you are asking for 3/4 ton ends, not one ton)

realized that after i posted. thanks for the heads up. does anyone vote one over the other? i'm curious to hear what people think.

GM ends on my 40's high steer from Luke-absolutely no issues. They are bigger than 80 series ends by a good margin. I thought they were 1 ton ends, but Mace may be right.

I also have another set waiting to be installed on my 60 series SOA if I ever get to it.

While they are available at AutoZone or any parts store, I'm not exactly sure what to ask for. I got them from Luke who I believe sources them from Napa.

I would go with the GM ends, but the Toyota ends will be plenty strong. The 80 series ends are not lubable and the GM ends come with zerks, and that was the decider for me. I re-lube after every trip to force any water out.

It is kind of a misnomer. The draglink domestic ends are all the same, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton. all 7/8"x18
The 1 ton tie rod ends are actually 1"x18

Didn't know that about the 80 series ends.. Why the hell would they not be lubeable?

General good numbers..
es2026R and es2027L 7/8"
Or
es2010l and es2010r (not absolutely positive on these numbers tho, they are dodge 7/8)

Just looking on the 4x4 labs website and I see it does say Chevy 1-ton tie rod ends and high angle 1 ton drag link ends. Later on in the page it says that the Chevy ends are 7/8-18, and the 80s are 23mm. If math serves me correct, 23mm is about .9in, and 7/8 is .875in. That makes the 80s bigger. I'm not very versed on TREs so if I'm thinking wrong let me know.

My only comment is the aftermarket 80 ends (TTT?) sold by most folks don't last. I've already replaced the ends on my 4Runners tie-rod ... only this time I paid CDan instead of the others. Cost was about the same.

I have the 4X4 Labs setup with GM ends. Works great! Much better than stock for handling.

I've got 80 ends that came with my marlin kit and they have zerks in them.

those are good numbers. that's what i was told to buy if i went this way. i ended up going toyota...toyota may be harder to find, but it's less expensive. i just carry a spare set with me (which everyone should anyway). my 80, 40 and 55 all use 80 ends so it makes spares easier.

for you big guys, i've got a brand new in the box es2010r from carquest...anyone wanna buy it?:D
