How do these conversions handle DDing? At this point, its not in my future but I always like a project to think about

I'd ditch the auto and go manual (NV4500 or H55F). The tranny always seems to be fighting the 4BT at stops. I usually shift into neutral on my 700r4 (has low stall torque converter) to keep the vibes to a minimum.

I love my 4BT. Vibrations are not an issue on my rig. I turned the idle up just to the point where the shaking stops. It sounds like a tractor though.
I have a 700R4 as well and agree that it just doesn't feel quite right. I think if I was going to do it again I would use the stock tranny with a controller or go with a manual.
No regrets on the 4BT what so ever though.

yep I build the rear bumper. with a body lift i didn't see many options that wouldn't have to be modified and if i was going to do that i might as well build one. probably spent way to much time on it but i think it turned out pretty well. it will look better once i get some lights on in the oval cutouts some white reverse lights or additional blinkers. one of the two

my CJ rattled a little bit but i had very hard leaf spring bushings used for the engine mounts, to take the torque of crawling with 40" tires. on this build I am using the fluid filled mounts and the vehicle is a little heavier which helps the tail from wagging the dog... '

my good friend has a 4bt in a 3/4 dodge 4x4 with fluid mounts and they are night and day difference. Idle can play a big role. about 750-800 they really smooth out

I sold my nv4500 I had mated to this to build an auto. my wife hates manual and refuses to drive them. I debated it for a long time and need a family friendly vehicle. Might regret it but to late now.

I really don't like the 3rd-4th shifts on the nv4500. I got use to it but not ideal. I would try a ZF-5 seems like the ratios might be a little better balanced. ratio's look good on the h55 too it might be a good option

I believe I have it sold planning on meeting next week. I've had it up in the classifieds and on craigslist for some time.

I'm liking that rear bumper. You don't see to many tube rears, did you make it ? Just out of curiosity what are you gonna do with the motor you took out of there ? I'm always in the market for a cheap spare.

What stall speed do you have ?

Pat

NV4500 and liquid mounts and no more vibration than my 3b.. NV is the way to go with this setup. Most all the 700r4s need rebuild sooner than later.

How much lift is required to do this swap ? Is it because of clearance issues with the oil pan and front diff ?

This is full compression so I will be modifying the oil pan for clearance. No lift needed if you don't want to

Check the Shear strength of the liquid mounts. Many of them cannot take over 8 degrees angle before they shear. Also something to consider, your engine and transmission mounts should ideally be made of the same material.

are you worried about the engine mounts or the tranny mount? these are the mounts that come with these engines in the delivery trucks that get driven like rented mules for thousands of miles. nothing special about the tranny mounts. the cruiser tranny mount can be changed or modified if needed

Do you have lockers on your '96? How do you plan on handling those without the toyo ecu in place. Just hard wire power with switches?

He is using the Toyota trans and transfer case the CDL and locker ECU s separate of the engine trans ECU. It should work like stock if he has lockers.

I was under the impression the locker ecu looked for certain conditions on the engine ecu in order to engage and disengage. Like vehicle speed, etc.

It will still get tach and speed info if it's used. The adapter has a tach that replicates the Toyota signal. I am 3 locked and if it doesn't work it shouldn't be hard to wire a by-pass for the locker ecu. It doesn't have many wires if I remember.
