Awaiting on CC module from Bell. I think I know the answer but to confirm: I will install the CC in my driveway but will need to drive about 3 miles or so to a parking lot to do the ZPC with the OBD port shorting method (the straight part is the issue). I will try to do the ZPC in my drive but expecting it to fail as I don't have a straight part of a road for about 1/4 mile. I don't think that will affect anything as I won't need CC before the ZPC. I've seen other posts where folks drove quite a bit before the calibration with no ill effects. Am I on the right track here?
No issues if you don't do the ZPC right away. You just won't have CC or Downhill Assist until you do the calibration.

I've always wondered about that, if one doesn't do the calibration right after install, if there's any consequences.
Good to know there aren't.

You'll be fine. In my experience, the system will sense when you are driving straight and long enough all by itself. I live in an area where I have to take 3-4 turns before it is straight enough to complete.

Update on the ZPC. Did the reset and CC "recognition" procedure from the FSM and YouTube (with the paper clip method) after installing the new switch module. I got a short straight drive in my neighborhood, but not the 25 mph for 10 sec that's in the FSM. I intended to to out later and find a long straight stretch of parking lot to reaccomplish the ZPC (didn't do it, too much traffic). From my drive to the road into town was 2 90* turns plus a gentle right curve (about .2 miles). When I got onto the main road and accelerated to about 50mph (straight line) I got my steering angle indicator back (the front wheels). No lights on the dash, and Crawl Control is recognized and works (found a construction site) both forward and reverse. No anomalies that I can detect. I did not redo the ZPC. So, do I have a good ZPC or should I look for a spot to redo this? Thanks!

You should be good.

Actually '20+... experimental parts have so far been too costly for anyone to take a swing at it... also some stock wiring is lacking

Yeah. I am at a point where I am certain that the ECUs and wiring could be made to work, but it will be much more costly than a switch assembly and ECU.

You watch these videos on YouTube demonstrating the effectiveness of crawl control but they just don't hit home until you need to use it yourself. I got myself stuck in a very muddy clay pasture. My wheels caught the edge of the road and my GX just slid right off. Okay, lets lock the center diff and try 4hi. Wheel spin. Okay, 4lo. Wheel spin. Rocking? Nothing. MTS? No better. Crawl control speed 1. Less than two minutes later I'm out. Best $500 I've spent on my GX, anyone on the fence, crawl control itself is worth $500.

Just picked up a stock 2013 GX470 Base a little over a week ago and MTS and CC became the first 2 mods. 😎

After watching the vids from the first posts, I was able to complete them both in about an hour.

Thanks for all the info from those that pioneered these mods.

I wish there was an easy add for the 20+ trucks but I can live without it. I never found it all that useful on the LC. Looks like a rear locker will be much easier and more useful.

I have both front and rear ARB lockers, along with a 4:56 regear and has been handy on some of our off road adventures with the regear helping with torque and RPM's on the highway. Although I did add MTS, and would like to add CC, but haven't got around to it yet.

Two different things, both good! Walking (creeping) down steep descents like you're glued to the ground is something that CC enables that lockers don't. Lockers have advantages in other scenarios.

True, but I never felt like it did much for me in the Land Cruiser. Too much brakes and vibrations, silliness. Have proper gearing and a locker and let it eat. Different strokes...

Not too long ago I got myself out of a mud bog with nothing but CC. In some places it has an advantage over lockers since the computer is actually in real time seeing what wheels have traction and which don't and rapidly applying or releasing that brake. Without CC on I was going nowhere. Unless I'm doing rock crawling or very very technical trails which I don't I'll take CC between that or lockers

Like I said, different strokes for different folks.

Ok just a reminder to everyone doing this - shift into neutral first so it can take off the traction control. Whoops!
