Got my motor cleaned up and a couple coats of paint on it tonight. After I got it cleaned up I was almost tempted not to paint it because it looked so clean. Anyone think a little overspray on the valve springs will be a big deal? Personally I don't think it will be a big deal but I was wondering if somebody had any catastrophic experience with this.

Chevy ORange is so awesome.

I don't think the paint will be a problem considering the fact that the motor is already loose and it is not running on the ragged edge.

It looks damn good though, like a crate motor.

Cleaning it really wasn't too bad it was just time consuming. I pressure washed it once then took everything off and spent a couple hours with a wire brush wheel on an angle grinder. I sprayed it a couple times with degreaser just to get the tight spots too. The crazy thing is there were two layers of paint, one orange and one blue but I got all that stripped off.

Painting the valve covers black was my plan too, just to give it some contrast.

Dude, if you're that far in, get out the silly smog cam in put in something that rocks! Comp Cams makes great products and can set you up with a cam that has a relatively low RPM torque curve (say 1000 to 5000 RPM) and will out perform what you have both in power and mileage. The old-school rubbing cams are not expensive, and there is a fair possibility that your original is starting to get flat on at least a few of the lobes. It just happens.

I know I know, you're right, unfortunately I'm trying to get buy without spending too much money right now. Driving up through your neck of the woods last weekend basically cost me a new cam. Plus, I don't even know really how many miles the motor has, my cousin and I made a guess, but still. I got it running and it ran just fine but you never know. I don't want to put too much into the motor right now. I just want to get it in and then go from there.

i could see sand (sandblasting) being a problem, even rattle can paint with metallic in it, doubt you will have any problems from what little overspray i see in the pic. I love the smell of hugger(chevy) orange in the morning.

So I painted the valve covers flat black just because I figured it saved 50 bucks. Now that I have them on there I'm undecided whether I like them or not. Yay or nay?

i like black, but not flat black for that application. And i'll x3 on the glossy being easier to clean/wipe

Just giving an update as I haven't really written anything on this thread in a while. The project actually sat for a few weeks since it was finals at school and work has been pretty bad too. I am actually quitting and starting a new job at the beginning of June, unfortunately that means I am giving back my work vehicle. I gotta get my landcruiser done now so that I can drive it for a few months for my new job until they decide if they wanna pony up for a car or just keep giving me a vehicle expense. So I have a week to get the motor in and driveable. Yesterday I ordered all the remaining parts I needed (rebuilt torque converter, b&m mega shifter, throttle cable, kickdown cable) and tonight we pulled the 2f out. Tomorrow I will start cleaning up the engine bay of all the remaining parts that I do not need and hopefully monday I get my torque converter so that I can slap it together and start welding in the engine mounts. I'll post up some pics if I find to take any. Oh yeah, and I ended up going with chrome valve covers, I didn't like the black. Another thing that I have been thinking about which actually Kurtis brought up is something we both have set up on our landcruisers. We both did a 2" body lift and spring over axle. Tonight he was mentioning it might be nice to take the body lift off and run 33's with SOA. I think if I'm going to be driving this car for a few months I don't want to have to climb up into it 20 times a day, so that 2" will actually make a significant difference if I take it off. Plus 33's are cheaper and I already have them. I just gotta find the lengths of the stock bolts so I can buy new ones because I think mine got lost when we moved into our house last year.

Cool Thread man. Can't wait to see a finished BB 60.
