I think the doner truck has a dually axle. I told coolotis we should put that out back and make this thing a SOA dually with the 454 and air bags So isntead of Taking our trucks to the Dunes we could just take the Land Cruisers with our trailers and stuff. I don't think I'll be able to convince him on the dually but i'm going to try. Plus it would probably get awesome traction in the sand with some mud terrains, dually's and over 400lbs of bb torque. This is defiantly going to be sick and will probably be going down soon.

Could run the dually stuff and H1 hummer rims...

A few years back i met a guy running a 454 in his 40.....That was one shoe-horn job but he pulled it off!

:hillbilly:

I know a guy with a 454 in a 40 series but always with temp problems .. ( thought due to smaller rad in the 40 )

I think I might try to just make the chevy radiator work somehow.

I won't really be able to get a good handle on everything and how its going to work for a couple days because I gotta get down to my cousins with a trailer and bring the donor truck back up here, but he is 2 hours away. Its spring break so I don't have class but turns out I just am working more so finding time is proving difficult. Lousy college.

Find a Gm 14 bolt sf 6 lug and run it with thw stock front SOA blingbling ;)

Yeah I was planning on keeping my SOA up front because its a 62 axle that I just rebuilt and I'm tired of getting greasy. What do you think of converting an 8 lug axle to a 6 lug axle? I'm just saying because the truck comes with an 8 lug but its a full float I think so I wonder what the difficulty is there.

And just to clarify, I am not running dually in the rear of a landcruiser, that would be so gay.

Freds40 did it ... Looks like alot of work but super cool when it's done

My 45 has a '70 454 in it. Haven't had a cooling problem yet. It runs an aluminum stockish size rad with mechanical fan. The fenders are closed, don't think it has a high flow pump. What probably has it running well is when it was gone through it was balanced, so it isn't creating extra energy fighting itself.. just a theory. All the other mods lean toward more power so they would negatively affect temps if anything.

It was running a stock LC front and narrowed Dana 60 rear (looked custom with Cruiser FF outers) with an ARB to 205/465, but I had a little instant torque event on a trail that stripped the axle hub studs and mangled the 205. The axle never was right anyways. I'm keeping the LC front and using an LC rear for now with a 700r4/3spd case when I get a chance to do the work. It is hard to keep off the pedal, but I will probably just be easy on the rear axle for now.

Save yourself the headaches of broken stuff. Upgrade the rear axle. The 14-bolt semi floater can be had with six lugs and is somewhat beefier than the stock Cruiser axle (larger shafts, 33 spline) but it is still a semi-floater. The Gold Standard of rears is the 14-bolt full floater for its strength and low cost but its eight-lug territory, has lousy ground clearance and weights about the same as a Rav-4. Using a centered-output T-case like the 205 you mentioned will get rid of the potential problem of fried idler shafts and bearings from the massive torque of the BBC. I cooked one with my SBC and compared to its big brother, its pretty tame.

There's a lot of good feedback on here. Makes me want to jump in the car and drive to my cousins to get the parts right now. Remind me of that in a few weeks when I'm pissed off at this project when nothing is going the way it should.

I have my steel wheels I really like. This whole eight lug thing is pissing me off. What if I use an adapter? I have been running 2" spacers on my landcruiser for 2 years no problem on anything. Something like this? The only problem I think I might encounter is the width of the axle.

Wheel Adapters 5 Lug CJ Ram

The big block is a cool idea, but I would not go that route again under any circumstances. Too much heat and weight. A well built stroker SBC will be more than enough to break parts on command.

Yeah I kinda have myself prepared mentally for dealing with overheating.

Didn't the "Old Hangtown" boys run 455's in their cruisers? I think Danny Warden and... what was there unofficial club called... Outlaws or something thereabouts, run BB's. I'm sure Danny installed a few, seem to purr quite nicely over the Ruby.

Ive finally set some time aside to drive down to my cousins and pick up the donor truck. I'm headed down there in a few hours today so soon enough I can start pulling motors.

Okay so here's an interesting predicament. How am I going to get a dana 70 on my landcruiser that is supposedly 7" wider than the stock fj60 axle? I already have 2 inch spacers all around so if I didn't run spacers in the rear it wouldn't be bad. However, I was planning on running a lug adapter on the rear and that is basically a spacer.
