I bought an original from NAPA a few years back but not sure the Kyosan is still available from them.

lots of Mud gold on the last few posts....

7X series turn signals are a nice touch. May have potential depending on how the frame/suspension was done. Supposed to have a 1fz which makes me think it's sitting on a cut down 80 frame but surely it doesn't have the h151f behind it.

EDIT: After a closer inspection by zooming in with my phone, looks like it's sitting on a butchered 40 frame.

I bet you threw up a little like I did...I always Craigslist hunt when I'm out of town to see what the locals have to offer in the cruiser world, some are worse than others.

Finally getting around to checking out the damage to my 40 from last years Crawl. Busted the NWF 203/205 doubler center index ring. :( That's gonna leave a mark...

facebook said this 40 from GA is coming to Jackson. Who done, done it?

I noticed some bubbles in the oil. At first I think it just working the kinks out of getting lubed for the first time, but it persists so I shut it down and go in for a closer look.

There are pinhole sized bubbles coming out from what appears to be some sort of repaired area.

Unless somebody chimes in and says this is normal, I’m guessing that this head had a crack, got repaired & rebuilt (hence the good compression #’s), and then put back together by a crackhead who flipped the headgasket and upgraded to inferior hardware store bolts.

You drop head off at machine shop?

It’s in my carry-on. Hand delivering it to the @beno.

Continued...

Got Big Blue’s head back from the machine shop. It was not warped, but did require resurfacing of the combustion side and the intake/exhaust side to get it flat.

The valves were pulled from the cracked head & resurfaced, and the seats recut before installing with new stem seals. The oil galley plug was also tapped & plugged.

I plugged the air rail holes with plugs from my man JC’s desmog kit.

It was cold as hell in the carport Saturday, so Dirty Rob stopped by and helped put it back together.

I got the valves adjusted yesterday and the City Racer carb put back on.

And then...

It has been turned into a hot rod. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to test drive it other than take it for a spin out of the driveway and around the cove, but it felt strong, power delivery instant.

The gear reduction starter is so nice after the slow big boi original.

It starts and revs easily*...

*engine was already warm, I did not start it cold and immediately rev it up!

Does it have a knock?

Does it have a knock?

I didn’t hear anything unusual (for a 150K motor). No telling what that motor has been through though.

Should run indefinitely at the current owner’s usage rate.

Anyone done any business with ACC garage in Atlanta? Called them today to talk about having some work done on my 40 that I’m too lazy to do but the gal who answered the phone wouldn’t even let me talk to a shop guy since I couldn’t bring it by for a $225/hr inspection. Didn’t get the best vibes so just wondering if I missed something with them.
