I would weld it. Correction: I would get a friend to weld it.

All this talk really makes me want to go with the $OR U-Bolt Skid Plates:

So you also want to lower your ground clearance and increase your chances of hitting rocks and other stuff?

Well, I got the new bolts...

and they fit perfectly!!!!!!

I would say that this tread has now come to the end, but it is now time to install them and take lots of pictures along the way.

I will post up picks as soon as I can.

OK, here we go. Let me start by saying that I forgot to take before pics of the front end, but if you have one, then you can just go look at yours after you are done looking at these pics :flipoff2:

I will start with my concern:
There is this rubber looking thing that was between the plate that the shock was mounted to and the spring pack before, but will not fit with the new plates. I would have to very carefully shave it down to fit and that would be a major pain in the ass. Wondering If I should bother or not.

Throw the rubber pieces in the trash. You can get some spacers from MAF that sit around the pin to align the pin in the holes on the axles. The spacers were a touch long when I installed them and I had to trim them down so the top of spacer would not hit the bottom of the axles before the u-bolts were fully torqued.

This piece did not touch the axel. it was between the bottom plate that the shock it mounted to and the spring pack.

I think for now I may just trim it and put it back on until I can get a suitable replacement. MAF is in Cali, and I am in CO, and I want to drive my rig again!!!!

Question:

Now is there any concern for crushing your shock mounts front or rear?

That concern was always there. They now sit higher than they did with the old setup, but yes they are still in the face of danger. When I replaced the shocks a few years ago I had to cut off the bolt that held on the drivers side rear shock because it had been hit by rocks so many times that is had ground flat with the edge of the shock.

Trim the center bolt on the spring pack (new low point). LOOKING GOOD :)

Dynosoar:zilla:

PS you can toss the rubber isolator

I didn't notice those spacers at MAF .. can you point 'em . ? ( tha link )

This is just on the rear axle. I am talking about the u-shaped bracket and the rubber pads. You don't need the bracket or the pads but then you can't center the pin in the hole in the axles so you put a spacer around the pin. I don't think MAF list them as a part on their page but you can call them or cruiseroutfitters and they will know.

I bought a set of those about 2 years ago - they deformed severly during install - no way I could get even close to the recommended 90 ft lbs. Deformation started around 60, and they just kept bending. I sent them back (got a full refund, except for shipping of course). Unless they've changed them, I think it's a crap product.

OK, they are all in and torqued to spec! Yippeeeeeee! :bounce:

But :frown: one of the front plates started to bend as I got close to the 90 ft lbs torque spec. The paint on the top of it started to crack and this made me very nervous. Should I be nervous? I think I will call steve at Man-a-fre on monday and see what we can do to get a replacement. I don't like it when I see metal bend that is not meant to bend.
