I'll be bringing several quarts of turkey stew we have put up for something different and local to my slice of the world.
(Made sure to find something with no peanut products as requested.)

This is not even remotely similar to turkey stew like the leftover Thanksgiving recipes on the internet by the way. This is from scratch, slow cooked for hours in cauldrons. We even cook bacon, 30-50lbs of it, to procure the grease for it. The recipe is held closely and on its 3rd generation IIRC.

Old School, 1000 quarts at a time:

Holy crap!

Teaser pics for my fellow Southern 100's. Day 7 of my families adventure. These are from the Valle Vidal in NM. In Red River, NM tonight then hitting some trails here tomorrow then on to Durango after that still looking for a nice spot to camp for a few days near Durango. The kids want to hit that hot spring pool they have in town. The first pic is from about 9500 feet. Can't wait to see you all in a week.

Jon I saw this on the FJ summit page...we've got to get a similar pic!

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD, and hopefully approved by the NSA.

That is a great pic,
I have been wondering if the locals, freshly rid or the FJ crowd, will welcome us or loath another group of yotas so soon after? Was the FJ crowd well behaved and therefore well received?

Another thought for the already overworked volunteer organizers:
Jon, would it be easy to set up an opt-in/opt-out contact list for confirmed attendees?
I'm thinking; Name, Mud Handle, Call Sign, email, Phone Number, City and State.
It might be nice to have along on the trip and after.
Maybe folks could make a selection (yes or no) on the trail selection list and then you could compile a list and send it out?

I would be happy to do a list as well if everyone wants to PM me that information or if Jon wants to forward it to me as he already has it.
Thoughts? Should we do this?

I challenge the GO PRO guys in the group to get a watchable video prepared before next August;). Haha....the reason for the challenge is that I have seen plenty of excited GO PRO guys take a lot of footage and it takes a LONG time for them to go through all the data and make something that looks decent. GO PRO does an excellent job of advertising/marketing but it takes some real time and skill to get cool stuff like they show....Good luck to you guys!!!

I think he is talking about me. I shot time lapse for four days straight in Death Valley. Which was almost a year ago.

Progress is always good! Really hope you get it done in time.

Got a dog question for you guys. Several of you always have dogs with you on these rides. Have they ever had any issues with the altitude? Seriously considering bringing my lab, who is an awesome dog. But I would hate for her to be uncomfortable or worse get sick enough to force me to take her down the mountain...

I'm bringing my two dogs & have been researching this. Similar to humans, you just need to accumulate them to the altitude & make sure they drink a lot of water. My dogs have been up to Mammoth and surrounding mountains 10Kft + and were fine.

Your pooches will do great. I would worry less about the altitude and more about the bouncing and steep climbs/descents. Make sure your gear is tied down or secured so nothing slides into him/her. I take my dog with me all the time. She has no trouble at altitude and dogs adjust very quickly. Last week on Red Cone we had my pointer, a lab mix and 2 pugs in our group. We ate lunch just above treeline (11.4-11.7) and all the dogs ran through the wildflowers. Even the pugs did fine.

Libby has climbed over 14,000 feet with me a few times and she's run full speed for hours over 12,000 feet countless times. Make water available as much as you can, give them a nice comfortable spot to lay down while you drive, limit their "head out the window" time when driving through the trees or on very bouncy terrain. And remember that just standing and staying balanced over rough terrain is very taxing for them. Basic precautions that you'd take for doing anything with your pooch will apply.

Securing cargo is something I have been racking my brain over for a while!

Progress over here as well!
Just got new rubber mounted this morning! Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/65/18
Also have half sliders mounted (tack welded-work in progress) need to get it out and finish welding but will not have time to put steps on so don't laugh at me for showing up with just the main slide bolted on!

I run the same tires, same size, and have been pleased with how they perform on and off road.

Thanks for the dog replies guys. If I can find the room I think I will bring her.

You guys have been posting some great pics and videos!
I can't wait to have a beer with you all up in the mountains and have a proper birthday celebration! (which is today by the way!)

Officially (90%) ready.

Hopefully the added expedition bars will help to secure goods... just replaced the windshield last week... dont need another one yet!

Plus, a Fresh oil change for the 5,000 mile trek to and from for us!

When I was under my truck the other day, I swear my sliders looked like they mounted with a couple giant u bolts. I am going to do an oil change tomorrow and reverify, but this seems kinda sketchy. Especially if they are going to actually be used as sliders! I bought the truck with everything already done to it...and it took me over a year of owning to notice this! Yikes! I am so under prepared for this trip! IT'S STILL AWESOME!!!

They are mounted with U bolts. Most are. Trust me, they can take the abuse. Make sure everything is tight.

those tires look good. that size fills the wheel wells nicely

Last minute question. Will any of these trails require carrying extra gas? If so, I guess I will get a milk crate and mount it to my ladder somehow, maybe get a can in there.
