Checking in with a 1991 LC, 165,000 miles, 3rd owner
Paid 4500.00
Repairs include:
Master Cylinder
Radiator
Fuel filter
Thermostat
Has K&N ignition and air intake...
Just recently parked the beast and got a gas saver...
I would like to take it wheeling more often.. However, little nervous of breakdowns.. Any feedback to the reliability of these LC's? What other items are likely to go @ 165,000?

You shouldn't have any issues. I had over 367,000 miles on the original motor in my 1992 when I traded it in for a Tundra in January. It was a daily driver and I took it on long trips and went wheeling with it. I miss it a lot but needed the extra power for towing.
91 FJ80. aluminum wheels so far. A long list to go and get started on next month!! Just picked my LC up about 5 weeks ago, and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, ten years later and I still love this thing!! Just put my 2" OME lift on and replaced all my suspension bushings, this has been long overdue!! Installed a snorkel. Tinted the windows. Painted it black, headed towards getting Raptor lining sprayed on.
Had to replace a water pump and an alternator, once. Had to replace the airflow meter, twice. And just a couple months ago, I had the oil plug in the head above #5 spark plug blow out, tapped and thread locked double Allen plugs in the hole. This happened while cruising down the interstate, luckily I stopped just afterwards not even knowing that it happened until 18 hours later after getting back from work. No damage occured to anything from it.
It has had all emissions stuff removed. 2¼ exhaust with a Flowmaster 70 series muffler.
Bumpers and roof rack are next on the list for this winter.

Pretty much bone stock other than an msd ignition box
I bought it just over a year ago and it's been awesome! Until recently... Sometimes it will start at first but then dies ( when it's cold ) and after that it won't re-fire. the starter turns the engine over but it won't fire up. After it sits for awhile or over night starts up like nothing's wrong... I've had people guess at issues, but no one can find the problem... I recently added seafoam to the gas and oil, it now runs better than ever... Except when it won't start... Very frustrated
any thoughts?

Purchased 1 wk ago a '91 FJ80 3FE with 226K miles w/blown head gasket. No body damage & clean interior with minor clear coat fade issue on hood and drivers side top side of doors below windows. Head was pulled and pan already removed, no ridge at top of cylinder bores, new water pump was already installed & new head gasket. Just needs my labor & machine shop work on cylinder head.
Considering doing a 4bt engine swap if I can find an adapter for the 4bt to A440F trans, but so far no luck. I really don't want to change the rest of the drive train other than install Marks Adapters part time 4WD kit with HD manual hubs. I'm going to have the head rebuilt & change the main & rod bearings before deciding to get some use and see how she runs. I can always sell the 3FE later.
First modification will be OME 4" lift when money is available (required for 4bt swap but i'd do this no matter what) then install 33x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM2 tires as i'd like to keep the stock alloy wheels which I like and not spend money to get 15x8's to go to 12.5 wide tires. Then do the part time 4WD kit from Marks Adapters.
Eventually build a custom HD Winch front bumper and HD rear bumper with swingouts for tire & dual gas can holder & both with 2 D-ring attach points.
Can't wait to get started and enjoy my first TLC FJ80.

A 96 with a 3FE? What country do you live in? I wasn't aware that was an option that year in any country.
I got one too, but i'm not sure I can run it now with the turbo kit i'm putting together.
C'mon man...he probably was just so excited about the newly acquired FJ80 that he posted it here by mistake. Of course he doesnt have a 96 with a 3FE. That would be silly. That would be like an M1/M1A1 tank with an engine from an M60A3. Just silly.

Negative, I have thought about doing one but I haven't gotten around to it. All the work that I have done I don't have pictures for... Painting the grill today I might start with that.
