Just drove it home today!

I've been lurking for some time learning about the venerable 80, and today I pulled the trigger on a 1991 with 197k on it. The clincher for me on deciding on this one over others I looked at was the front axles looked the best of any I looked at, including a 1994 fzj. It has 32" tires on american racing rims that I actually kind of dig. I'll spend the next month performing all the maintenance I can think of, then buff and clear coat, then tint, blah blah blah, plans always change so who knows what I will end up with. But I like it. It drives better than my 1997 4Runner I sold this spring.
Oh, I like that it has no plastic on the fenders.

Check it out!

1992 with 239k miles, second owner, all stock except the new paint job. Drove from CA to WV non-stop 2700 miles....I mean non-stop...didnt stop the car once due to a bad starter. Temp stayed steady, oil and trans fluid looked great after the trip. Love these trucks.

1992 3FE

1992 3FE, Stock aside from ARB bumper and min lift oldmanemu suspension. Just replaced thermo, alternator, radiator with OEM.

Thinking about selling my jump seats............

Just picked up my "new" FJ80 the other day! I didn't get a chance to snap any pics besides this one but will get more up by this weekend once time permits. It definitely needs some new A/T tires on it before hitting any trails!

It's a '91 w/ about 222k+ miles on it. Runs quite well. It does have some jolts whenever I take my foot off the gas when accelerating and shifting from park to reverse, reverse to drive, etc. Hope it isn't too bad, other than that, it drives smoothly on the highway and on the road!

91 White LC

Hello all.........Just purchased...2 weeks now. Found it in the site classifieds (purchased from Remac226) after finding nothing locally. Drove it from SC to Tallahassee...Now working on things that need addressing..brakes, coolant loss (seal on water pump is leaking). This is my first LC and first Toyota. I plan to spend the winter months making sure its in proper shape- not a daily driver..garage queen.

Love that search button, found answers to all my questions so far by searching, novel approach for sure......

1991 3fe with 183K, no leaks and solid, a soccer mom driver from LA for most of its life.

No action shots yet, still under construction after the purchase. Yes the 3fe is slow but I find it works fine with lowered expectations still, 5.29s are on the way.

Just bought a 92 FJ-80 last weekend. My first Landcruiser. I've wanted on since I was a kid. 160000 original miles. Sooo many mods to list. Mods that I probably dont even know about yet! A doctor owned it and was going to pull the motor and trans to do a diesel/5 speed conversion, but he found one with a blown motor to use. I'm glad he did! :D

Just bought my second LC about a month ago....'92 with 218K miles. Owned an '87 and sold it with 186K miles about 15 years ago. I also have a '94 2 door Full Size Blazer Sport (before they were called Tahoes) that I have owned for about 8 years and am getting ready to redo.

List of things I have done so far:

Changed all fluids...except for steering and brake:
- transmission fluid was a nice crispy brown color (new tranny fluid smoothed out the shifting)
- front and rear diff fluid, and transfer case fluid were also brown and almost chunky
- anti-freeze was brown and old so I flushed and refilled
- removed side-steps (this stopped a nasty vibration when at highway speeds)
- new 16" wheels and 265-75-16 tires (HUGE IMPROVEMENT)
- wheel alignment
- added grease to steering knuckle/birf assembly (this was immediate steering improvement)
- recharged A/C and it came roaring back to like (super cold)
- SeaFoamed the engine (smoothed idle and improved starting)
- Replaced broken and faded side mirrors with Kool Vue OE style mirrors (great cosmetic improvement and they were super easy to install)
- new distributor cap and gasket, rotor, spark plug wires, spark plugs, PCV valve, PCV valve grommet, and air filter (HUGE improvement in power, starting, acceleration, and idle)
- replaced broken bezels for the front interior door handles

I have all new vacuum hoses, EGR valve etc., fuel filter, and other hoses for under the hood, and plan on tackling those things in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I will get some pictures posted soon.

I just bought a 91 Land Cruiser. I've wanted one for a long time and when I stumbled onto this beauty for $2500, I finally got one!
134,000 on the clock.
14,000 on a newish engine.
They replaced the engine in 2002 and only put 14k on it in the ensuing years.

new LX450 in NJ

I wanted to say Hi! I have been browsing this board for a while and finally pulled the plug this month! here is the thread:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-t...0-sale-9000-washington-d-c-maryland-area.html

Description:

• 1997 Champagne Pearl/Platinum LX450. I am second owner, bought with 83,000 miles in 2004.
• 162,000 miles

• ARB Bull Bar front winch bumper (stock front bumper available if you want it)
• Kaymar rear bumper with tire and gas carrier
• Old Man Emu 2.5” lift kit with 1.5”poly spring spacers. I have caster correction bushings and Landtank’s template; not installed
• Metal Tech 4x4 Transmission/T-case skid plate

• 7 pin mod and center diff switch installed.
• AC blows cold and works 100%
• XM radio antenna installed
• Stock interior, six CD changer, 3rd row seats.
• Husky floor liners installed

List of work done in the last year:

Known issues:
• Paint peeling on right front plastic fender flare (I have rattle cans of factory colors and clearcoat) I may get around to fixing it depending on how long it takes to sell. It seems to be somewhat common for whatever reason.
• There are a few chips in the paint, but it is in overall excellent condition. No rust.
• Full detail done inside and out in October
• Wheel-skinz leather steering wheel cover installed in October
• Front driver seat leather worn from entering and exiting vehicle
• CORRECTED!!!!! Low fuel light always on, Lights up bright when actually low. All gauges work perfectly. It's amazing what cleaning a connector and dielectric grease can do.

this truck runs strong. coming from a subaru (still have a 2004 STi) i'm hoping fixing these are a piece of cake like subarus. Just took it offroading at Wharton State forrest and it was a blast! any south jersey/nj ownes here?

Just bought a 1991 FJ80

Just got me an old Landcruiser as a Christmas gift

This is the 4th Cruiser, although for the last 9 years I did not have one. The first was a 1991 FJ80 with the 3F Engine and 5speed manual and part time transfer. When moving I have to part with it and bought an 1992 HDJ80 with 1HD-T engine and automatic and fulltime 4WD. Later I got a second family car which was a 70 series short LC with 1HZ engine and now I just bought a 20 year old LC with 3FE engine, auto and fulltime 4WD.
I got it for a good price and the condition is fine with almost no rust etc. but the engine makes a LOT of noise! It sounds like the valves but I adjusted them and the sound is still the same. I measured the compression and nothing obvious either, all cylinders have a similar compression (cold engine approx. 100...110 psi).

The is a soundfile at youtube:

1991 Toyota Landcruiser Engine Noise 3FE 4.0L - YouTube

Does anybody have another idea what could make this hammering noise? I will check with a stethoscope and report back what I find.
Regards from Spokane, WA
