Hi everyone. :) I'm new to the club and look forward to learning many new things here.

Recently, I purchased a 1991 FJ80 w/160,000 miles and a cracked head. lol :) -- Machine shop said the head is repairable, so I'm in the process of rebuilding my first 3FE.

How about that. I purchased my 91 last May and just found out it had a cracked head. I just got the head back on after they welded up the crack. Wasn't too bad, although I don't have her completely back together yet.

Hey guys, checking in from Watkinsville, GA. First of all this site is awesome! There is a ton of useful information on here. I recently purchased a non running 1991 FJ80. I installed a new battery only to find out that it needed a new fuel pump which I have since replaced. I also removed and cleaned the gas tank. A fresh oil change and a bath later, here she is. It came with the brush guard, and I added the rack. Future plans include new tires and off road lights.

179,000 miles (30,000 on the new motor)

Welcome!! :flipoff2: You'll find out (if you haven't already from everybody else here) that you might want to ditch the brush guard. A 91 with only 179k is AWESOME. (Mine came with 247k on the clock)

A 1982, eh? :D
Welcome! :flipoff2:

Just picked up a family friendlier replacement for the 40:

92 with 120,000. Mostly stock plus ARB bull bar and IPF lights. Passenger flares have some peeling paint so they'll likely see herculiner in the near future. Otherwise very clean.

Nice find MOfj40! I wondered when I would see a post from you on this.

Enjoy your new set of wheels!

Cheers.

92 FJ80 with 147K. Bought it from a friend, neighbor and mutual mudder. It had a bad trans so we swapped it out for an original a440. Replaced all the fluids, trans (obviously), transfer case, power steering, both differentials. Power timed it, with new plugs. Next up is knuckle rebuild kit because the front diff was “greasy oil”. Any recommendations of kits?? I read cruiserDan, I was just wondering if anyone else has knuckle rebuild success stories?? I’m also going to take the 33x10.5 off my bronco and mount them on the original rims. I want to keep the suspension stock for now. Anyone put 33's on their rig? Mud flaps rub etc? I read people used 1 to 1.5 spacers, but I won’t be mudding right away. Thought about OME 2” lift, but don’t think I need it … until rock crawling calls. Needless to say, I’m hooked.

Greetings!

1991 Tan (Desert Sand?) FJ80, dead stock with 307k miles on it (US Truck). Bought it off a good friend who happens to own a small Wrecking Yard specializing in Toyota and JDM. Its all there, minimal rust, doesnt seem to have any leaks. but doesnt run. It cranks over fine, compression 105-120psi, has spark, timing good, but only fires on a couple cylinders then dies, tried squirting gas directly into the TB, same result. Not too concerned, I'm sure we'll get it figured out, only worked on it the one time, right when I bought it.

To be honest, I was looking for a Grand Cherokee to build up, they are really plentiful and cheap around here, light weight, with EFI V8 and coils were the main attraction, but this came along for a great deal, and after reading on here for a few months I'm really glad to have an 80 instead. My first car was a '72 Corolla 1600, and last summer I had a 1991 JDM MR2 Turbo, great fun.

So far I've acquired an OME lift w/shocks and steering stabilizer, not sure which one but it looks to be a few inches, still on the parts truck that buddy is saving for me. Also a set of 5 Interco trxus STS 36x14.5x15 and 15x10 alum wheels.

Plans are to get it running and lifted pretty soon, wheel it for a bit to make sure its what I want, and then swap in some horsepower. Lots of options there, buddy has in stock a 1UZ-FE, 2JZ-GTE, 02 Vette LS1, Vortec 5.7, Vortec 8.1, RB30DETT, 7M-GTE, etc etc.

My 1991 has 33x12.5s under it, and the only thing I've done are the 30mm MAF spacers. No rubbing under full lock, and no rubbing under flex either.

I'll get some pictures up soon enough but after giving up the 100 to the ex wife I decided to get a REAL Land Cruiser. ;)

1992 with 161k miles on it. All stock right now and will stay that way mostly, only have a safari rack and sliders on the agenda.

Thanks for the info AJLFJ80! I have the set of 33 x 12.5. 411's should take care of the torque, but highway miles and long ascending hills...still a little worried. Any insight?
Was thinking about 265/75R16, as an easy medium.

Do you have any lift on your FJ80 ?
Also, what size tires are those on your stock wheels ?
Thanks

I believe it's stock. The seller advertised an "upgraded suspension" is his ad but after looking at the truck it appears to be just newer Bilstein shocks and steering stabilizer. I think it looks taller because it doesn't have the extra running boards and trim hanging down like the later FZJ80s.

Tires are 31x10.50 Michelin LTX M&S with about 60% tread left. I like them a lot more than I thought I would but will likely change to something a little more aggressive once they're worn out.

1991 Landcruiser

Location: Berea, Kentucky

All stock - 143,000 w/one problem that is giving me fits because it is very unsafe.

The truck is shutting off going down the interstate, just dies. Sometimes on long trip, sometimes on a twenty mile trip. Let it sit for a few minutes, start it up and it goes on. I've parked it since this has happened and would love to start driving it again. What do I need to fix on this truck so it doesn't get me killed?

Brain Fart - It's a 1992

Very tired, long day at work. I am having trouble with my stock 1992 cruiser NOT 1991. I don't guess it matters much as I think they have the same motor but didn't want to misquote what I have.

Just bought a 92 fj80 w/ 150k. I have been looking for about 6 months and finally found one. All original with no rust. Everything works except the cruise control. Any suggestions?

Search on this forum... jayp, there's an EFI relay that seems to be a common issue. sammy, there's a speed sensor on the transmission or transfer case that commonly goes bad. Mine ('91) doesn't work either.

I got my '91 for free from my parents in January. It used to be mom's daily driver but sat for about four years. One fuel pump, oil change, and coolant flush later, I'm now relying on it as my daily driver. There are a few little things I'm doing slowly. It needs a front axle rebuild and the AC doesn't work, but I can't beat it for the price!

Took me a while to check in, but here is a pic of my beast- STUCK! Oh well. No mods, and very happy with the rig. ~200,000 miles and running great. New belts, hoses, plug wires, plugs, dizzy $ rotor, brakes, u-joints. Still need a front bumper from an accident prior to my acquisition and a few other bits and pieces.
