Heck, I'm only a year late in doing this.

Vehicle: 1992 FJ80

Location: Northern Utah County, Utah

3FE Junk: Disabled the EGR system with BBs, blindly advanced the timing to the very edge of ping city, lots more power now :steer:

3FE Issues: Coolant leak somewhere...

New 3FE owner

Been lurking for a while. Just bought my first L/C this week. 92 with 154,000 miles original Arizona car since new only been in Ohio 2 winters so the rust is not an issue. The PO is the 2nd owner and has an extensive service history. Many mods to come!!

It's time I joined the fray. Here's my truck, most of the mods are in the sig line. The second pic is of the rear storage area, and the third is of the dual batts.

91 FJ80

Got my 91 3FE back in May. I've been lurking for awhile.

Bone stock, 159,000 miles.

Concentrating on getting it baselined right now. Also had to replace front and rear pinion seals, removed the roof rack, replaced water pump, replaced original spark plugs, distributor and wires, rebuilt power steering, adjusted valves for the first time (badly), replaced side cover and valve cover gaskets (got the covers powdercoated).

Going through it piece by piece. Thanks to guys at ACC Toyota in Atlanta for all the help with the Cruiser. It's nice having a great shop less than a mile from the house.

I couldn't be any happier. It's slow, but I like it.

i just picked up a 91 fj80 this weekend with 186k on it. its super clean inside, the typically nicks in the paint, but overall pretty sweet. it has the "thunk" that i've read about, and makes some other funny noises i haven't heard in other cars, but i drove it 2hrs home so it must be alright... right?

92 w/ 220k
Guess I'll sign in, but haven't done too much. Acquired in 1999 when wife wanted an SUV to be cool. She calls me and asks, "Is a Land Cruiser a good car?". It's been great fun!

FRONT AXLE & LIFT:
She drove for a while, then son drove after going through 3 other cars, he was driving when it wouldn't go, it just sat making a grinding noise. Brought it to a transmission place who wanted $1,200 just to see what's wrong with it. I found IH8MUD and bought birf & female on the one side. Shocks were bad and saved a bunch of money, so bought the 2.5" OME and did all at once.

GAS:
It became my driver, but gas prices were killing me, so bought a daily driver in 2007 and keep it as a spare.

OTHER STUFF DONE:
Have replaced the alternator, starter, water pump, one fuel injector, countless tune-ups (plugs, wires, rotor & cap), and power steering (used). Got a used door & front fender after a wild night in out in the sticks (looks better, but wish I'd have kept the $1,200 and lived with the dents). Resealed the front axles again, I'm "gasket challenged" and every time I re-gasket it leaks. Just replaced the pipes with cat from manifold to y-pipe $660 for parts from rock auto (big mistake, should have used Midas). Then Denso O2's which fixed rough idle.

TO DO:
Right now I have a diff leak where the drive shaft hits front diff. I'll leave it alone and check the fluid often. Next purchase will be tires. Current 31" BFG have low tread, found out driving down to the river in mud and almost got stuck. I'm thinking about BFG MT KM2 33x10.5xr15, money is tight but may look at 35". Also have a new valve cover gasket & pcv, so may mess with the valves this summer. Also, may look at timing by ear because I can't find the timing window. Long range: AC doesn't work and radio volume knob fell off then post fell into the radio quite a few years ago. Hot, quiet ride in the summer time.

In summary, most important it's a very dependable spare! I have had some great fun 4-wheeling and have been very impressed, but don't do it as much. I enjoy working on it and look forward to about 10 years from now when the kids (and their bills) are gone so I can spend some money and play more.

1991 fj80 with ye olde 3FE (253k) - durable, but MAN--kinda puts the "cruise" in Land Cruiser, right? hehe. I've had it since May, and I love it (sloth/slug/whatever you wanna call it, I love it!).

As the sig says, almost bone stock...once I get a job, I'm hoping to change that. For now, PM, PM, PM!

two year mud lurker, now finally my dream of cruiser ownership has happened. and in the most miraculous way possible.

craigslist.

yep, this is one of "those" stories,

1991 fj80 that won't run. seller had lost spark almost a year ago only a few months after he bought it. he spent roughly $800 replacing every inch of the ignition system that he could think of. so he said in his add that the ecu was dead. but thanks to the trouble shooting pdf on here, i discovered this am that it was indeed not the ecu.

it was of course the ubiquitous efi main relay. and since i have owned multiple toyotas i had a spare relay from a supra. and boom, the truck i purchased this morning roared to life after its 9 month cocooning in the previous owners yard.

the price i paid for this rare 3fe gem? $1000. no lie. i spent some money on a new optima and an oil change, and i have been driving around all day.

plans are for a lift of some kind, and 35s. unless that is a bad idea.

thanks for all the info on here. i am very glad to now be part of the community.

3fe

Been lurking for a couple months-my wife doesn't understand. 92 fj80 135k stock-love it. Started with a 40 but needed something to haul kids in. This site is great! I learned a lot already-Thanks
