Hey Matt,
Hey Matt,
I sent you 3 emails and PMs and never got a response.
Please let me know if you have gotten my emails.
Thanks,
ML
Just got a 91 3fe that lived most of its life in northwest. Decent condition. Its skinny enough i cant put it in garage without taking somrething else out. Fairly well sorted, im adding ss many oe parts to basket as can afford currently.
I checked resources, dont see an FSM for a 91?
edited as i asked 3 questions and found answers to 2 of them already via search.![]()
Thank you Matt
got one of each delivered
how long did it take for you to realize that FSM and any other ones you scoop up from here on out , have or will change your 3F-E and FJ80 life ?
- it will never need a charge or a cord
- it can slide off your fender , and hit the shop floor , without you having to Hit up your Wife for YEN for a 18 pack ...
- you can carefully stand on it to lurch that much further into your Engine bay if need be ....![]()
Just scooped a 1991 150,000 miles pretty much bone stock. No body rust at all, the underside is solid but looks like it’s seen some water. I found it in west tenn and moved it to eastern NC. Had an annoying intermittent no start issue turned out to be the distributer. I also have an intermittent CEL, a small clunk (kickdown cable or front driveshaft area), and a clicking in the left front wheel. I just swapped out the speakers and can’t wait to do more. This thing is addictive I wanna get it sorted! I’m finding this group to be amazing!

Sure man it’s these pioneer 6.5’s shallow mount. You can fit them in the front and rear door holes without messing with your window. I’ll post a pick when I get back to the truck. They sound great and amazingly only $28What speakers did you install, can you share?
Yeah but after you do that stuff you know it’s done.Just got a '91 with a 3FE a bit more then a month ago. Got it for cheap, but its been horribly maintained. Honestly I'm kind of pissed off at it right now, but I know I'm going to love it ones I get the issues sorted. Right now Im battling a persistent manifold leak near the firewall that's driving absolutely nuts.
Things Iv done so fare
-Complete engine tune up with new plugs/wires/cap and rotor, some new gaskets, EGR delete, air filter, PCV valve, fuel filter, yada yada yada...
-Some new vacuum lines
-Cleaned the IAC
-New belts
-New anemic 80amp alt (want to figure out a GM alt set up)
-New ground and power wires
-New fuse link
-Optima red top
-New fuel level sender
-Made my self an exhaust from the headers back with 2.5' TIG welded stainless, two Magnaflow cats, and a Magnaflow muffler. Its to loud and I'm getting a larger Flowmaster muffler to lower the sound hopefully. It came out decent, but man it was a PITA to do with out a lift.
-Done the manifold gasket twice now and its still leaking. Going to do it a third time with doubled up gaskets
-Icon 3' stage 1 lift
-BFG KO2 33" tires on stock 15" wheels
-New steering joints and damper
-New front windshield
-Painted the wiper arms and installed new blades
-Deleted the factory roof rack
Things I have the parts for
-All new suspension bushings and body mounts
-Oil pan gasket
-Drive line U joints
I need to address the brake system. Probably a new MC, soft brake lines, pads and rotors. Still need to lower the proportioning valve after lift. And I need a radio and speakers.
The axles also need a rebuild.
Basically anything that can ware out over time needs replacement on this truck.
No such thing as a cheap car...
address couple issues on the 3FE. one being the EFI relay. If you offroad, it will 100% heat up and you won't be able to start your truck., also inspect your engine mounts and tranny mount, they are prone to crack and sending your clutch fan into your radiator.....Just got a '91 with a 3FE a bit more then a month ago. "no such thing as a cheap car" true story man, but sounds like you are well on your way to getting there. I wish i could do more of these repairs im anal about haviing everything right but also afraid to dive into big repairs, so im spending a lot at shops which is a pain in the ass dropping it off, waiting, spending etc. Labor of love i guess right lolJust got a '91 with a 3FE a bit more then a month ago. I grabbed a spair relay to keep in the glove box. Got some new engine mounts sitting in a box. Haven't grabbed a tranny mount yet. Iv had the clutch fan thing happen on a BMW of mine before on a road trip from WA to CA. Had to fix a hole it wore into a coolant hose with a piece of tire I found on the road side and a lot of electrical tape. Held up welladdress couple issues on the 3FE. one being the EFI relay. turned out my aftermarket alum. radiator was a good 1/2" thicker than stock....I should have known better...i have posted on "what have you done to your 80s this weekend"....I grabbed a spair relay to keep in the glove box.
