Go to the diesel section: Best Turbo for 3B Diesel... - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/best-turbo-for-3b-diesel.221688/

I have Holset HE221W in my 1981 BJ42:

I found couple used garrett M24 turbos with wastegate I am not going to install cooler on it,still figuring out how to install it, Any one installed them if yes please share the build.
I don't have any experience with the M24, but overall it is pretty much a puzzle of airflow fitment, turbo cooling, and gauges/gauge sensors (boost and EGT). My turbo was oil-only, but some have water cooling as well. Although it won't directly apply, the below pic provides an additional view of routing / setup, showing the turbo, down pipe, modified air cleaner, and of course the turbo is sitting on the 13BT exhaust manifold shared above, with a center outlet (the manifold can't been seen in the below photos).

I can't be certain anymore, but I believe the air filter was from an early 40 and I shortened and rounded the nose to fit my situation. I also decided to bring clean, cool air in from the outside via a homemade snorkel. Since you are not running an intercooler, you would likely re-orient the turbo outlet upwards and connect it to the intake across the top of the engine. Mine routes out the bottom, then forward, into an intercooler...

And my truck is an 84, so you might see other differences from your engine bay.

If you install the turbo ”backwards”, it’s possible to use the original air filter without any modifications.
