Yes, my spare is a BFG 33-12,5-15 on a stock rim. The rim is a little narrow but it will work.

Narrow rims are less likely to breaking down the bead aginst obsticles (rocks etc.) than wider rims, they just won't allow the tire its maximum footprint and will generally require lower air pressure to wear evenly on the road. Thats what crawlers use beadlocks for to prevent deflating due to bead breaking away from the rim.

I would suggest looking at the manufacturer's recomendations on rim minimum width for the selected tire. Try BFGoodrich Tires as an example. Select the tire you are interested in and look under sizes and specifications. I suppose it depends on the manufacturer, and it has been done, but personally I would question going to to a 12.50 on a stock rim.

it'll work, at stock pressures. they'll wear fine

Here's a related question, is it more desirable to have 33's on a narrow (10.5) or on a wider (12.5) foot print for an FJ60/61/62?

I drive mostly on road (80%), but lots of snow this winter and have used my 4 wheel drive numerous times due to deep snow and slippery slushy conditions. Plus pot holes around here are becoming big enough to swallow my truck.

Thanks for any info,

H.

I would suggest running 10.5 or 9.5 's for snowy conditions and highway driving. That's what i run and wouln't go any wider.

if i go offroad with it, will it pop off, even if i dont let any pressure out

Hell no! I usually run 12psi off road.

FJ62 on 33x12.50, stock rims, no lift, I have heard them rub before but not too often, free cast offs from my buddies jeep, Front BFG ATKO, some kind of mickey Thompson in the back

I am running 33 12.50 on 16 inch rims with a 2inch lift and the tires still rub in extreme conditions, or if you have a canoe and 2 other people going around a sharp corner.

I went to Costco, my favorite place to buy tires, for some 33's. They said 33x1250's have to go on a rim that is at least 8.5" wide. That's our policy, no exceptions, the man said. Another tire shop, a local place, said pretty much the same thing.

You guys that are getting these fatso tires put onto these skinny rims, where are you getting this done? Is it just who you know?

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. Use the 3 to 2 rule; tires should be half again as wide as the wheel. ex: 37X15X15 should go on a 10" wide wheel... Use that and never question again...

We must of went to the same Costo in Billings, they would not mount a 33"x 9.5" BFG AT on my stock rims, said they were to narrow.

small independent tire place.

So a 12.5 would call for a 8 to 8.5 inch wheel...

I have them and the rub at extreme turns as well as at articulation. I will be going with wider rims when these are done or if I can sell them.

BFG 33x12.5x15 on stock '60 rims, BJ60 with BDS lift

Yup. Same place. They have a rule book and they don't deviate from it.
