Lol. We need more positive thinkers in this thread!

Ha! I'm thinking positively. I am just looking forward to the clever ways that the fine folks here in the mud forums are going to come up with to game the system, whatever it is. Although NeMal512's more optimistic view might be correct. It could be that H1 = H and H2 is a new, higher mode. Or maybe just a selectable version of the current stealth high mode that you can only unlock with CC. Ideally, H2 would be a new high mode and there would also be a stealth high mode on top of that. The release did mention additional travel in the suspension, so it would make sense that they would make it available.

That grill doubles as a step ladder for oil changes, etc.
I have serious issues with design language of Lexus, Toyota, Japanese auto makers, and BMW. Huge grills are non functional, hinder aerodynamics, and makes the front end overly busy. That BMW x7, 7 series, and the 4series suffer from these same huge ass grills. I put it in the same category as fake exhaust pipes and non functional side port holes.

Toyota is also doing some weird stuff with the flying C pillar. And finally, they took a nice clean prius and lexified it with squinty eyes and tons of creases.

I don’t have any expensive art, my wife didn’t go to design school, and I don’t have any rich architect relatives, but I know what I like. IMO The lx570 sold like crap because it’s ugly compared to the competition. I was hoping Lexus would fix that. They didn’t.
Not much of that competition is left on the road 20+ years later.

LX 200 owner here, my $0.02:

The Good
  • Stitched seats
  • Improved AHC lift amount
  • Better tech (cameras and sensors etc)
  • Got rid of the god awful touch pad thing, made everything touch as god intended
  • Rear seats fold down flat (at a cost, but non the less), dramatically improves cargo usability.
  • Reduced weight and improved engine efficiency during to turbo and size
  • More usbs etc
The bad
  • Removed split tail gate to save weight even though no one really gives a f**k about weight on these things
  • Reduced room in the back seats, take a look at some LC reviews to see what I'm talking about. Very disappointing for a vehicle this size
  • No autonomous driving feature at all, I believe the XC90 has it to a degree, but this has none for example (besides adaptive cruise)
  • No innovation. Last time when the LX200 was released, there was a swathe of cutting edge tech for the time (think adaptive cruise and offroad crawl cruise), it doesn't really feel like they have innovated anything here.
The Ugly
  • Yo mama.....
  • Still does not have as bad a face as this vehicle. God. Damn.

Conclusion

Would I buy it as a 200 series owner. Nah. Too many downsides for me to be tempted to upgrade. Like there is no compelling reason to upgrade. But I'm not sure Lexus are really targeting uber practical folks like us anymore. I feel like they addressed the short comings for rich soccer mums that were choosing the Range Rover over this, so they are looking for NEW buyers as opposed to repeat buyers.

Questions
does any one know if the adaptive cruise works at low speeds? I think the cuttoff is like 40kph/20mph, which sucks for stop start traffic.

In the press release, IIRC, adaptive cruise is set at 30mph or higher, but will go down to 0 and accelerate from 0, so should work in stop and go.

Agreed. Give me something similar to autopilot on the Tesla. Won’t ever happen because Toyota is run by ultra conservative lawyers.
Zero cutting edge on these trucks. Give me Triple lockers so I can tell my buddies it has triple lockers. It’s like they dropped a new engine and interior in a 200 and called it a 300.

Funny you say that. My 200 has that exact same feature. Adaptive cruise with full stop and resume.

Hmmm, I guess I will have to get a 2015+ one, mine is 2011

Even though I will always favor the 100 if I’m to be in an LC I’m glad I’m in my current LX. I can get a good CarPlay experience in it for the future. As up to date as the V8 will ever get inside and out. Besides, I’m never going to want to talk to my car when apple or google assistant exists anyway.

Full self driving is for later. It’s not ready for me yet personally and we need to see if these paid updates and subscriptions are going to actually become the norm. If that’s the case I’m not going for it.

Looking closely at the dash of LX600 as well as the 300-series LC I can only conclude Toyota is ****ing with people:

1. Now LC gets manual buttons for fan speed adjustment. But... gets separate up/down buttons for volume. Who does such s***?
2. LX however loses separate manual buttons for fan speed adjustment... and moves them to screen (like on US 200-series LC). But at least retains volume knob.

(I realize lower trims of 200 overseas had physical fan speed buttons, I hope to retrofit those controls one day)

One thing that would a deal breaker in any car for me is a lack of one-press power on/off button for stereo and lack of a volume dial. Steering wheel controls are nice, but not enough.

Man - is that much of the body seriously glued together? What does long term fatigue look like in these joints? @TeCKis300 - do modern structural adhesives meet or exceed a proper weld’s strength, fatigue/vibration/flex life in metallic construction (composites aside).

Little late. I wouldn't flinch at all with structural adhesives over welds. There's key advantages of bonding greater surface area for better strength and better fatigue life. This new fangled stuff can be incredible if used and applied correctly.

I just got a '21 LX a few months ago. Kinda wished I waited heh. Although the only "disappointing" thing is no more V8 but the interior is really nice and I like how it looks.

I imagine that Lexus as a whole is now marketing towards the younger crowd. Example being getting rid of the analog clock, which I loved btw and I'm part of the younger crowd.

This will definitely sell a little bit better than the outgoing LX570 since the biggest drawback for consumers (Not Ih8mud members) was the outdated technology and fuel economy.

I wouldn't be too worried for now.

1. I you like this one, your going to prefer the hybrid when it comes in a year or two.
2. Your vehicle is going to be sought after for another 10-20 years LOL.
3. Getting a 600 right now would neither be easy or cheap.
4. Its going up in price, and on some trims quite a bit higher.
4. Question. Can you tell me why you chose the '21 LX over the competition? If you can justify that, then you can certainly remain satisfied with anything outdated in regards to the 570-600. It didn't change all too much in capability or anything. Some all around improvements but at what cost? Considerable drawbacks to all the enhancements other than AHC maybe and tech.

I got it because it was likely the end of the V8 which was just confirmed with this new one.
