You can do it yourself, it's pretty easy. The gaskets and bearings are available. I did have to replace my 1st gear as teeth were damaged. Luckily I had a spare 3 speed to take parts from. Seems like the input shaft, 1st and reverse gear are most likely worn/damaged. I rebuilt the transfercase and parking brake at the same time, and of course new clutch and rear main seal.

Happy to answer any questions since it's fresh in my memory.

I have about 1500 miles on mine. I did a complete frame-off restoration. I replaced all the seals and gaskets on my 3 speed but did not need to replace any gears. And yet it’s leaking out the front and rear main seals. I’m guessing I did something wrong???
I was hoping to find someone with more experience to try again???

Do you need pullers and a press to replace any of the bearings???

Thank you
I appreciate your expertise 👍

For the large bearings in the front and rear of trans, I used a slide hammer bearing puller to remove. They tapped in easily without needing the SST. The needle/roller bearings don''t require any special tools.

It's easy to put the front seal in backwards, which might be your leak there. The seal on the rear is in the transfercase.

I do have all those tools. Maybe I’ll give it another shot. Yeah, I meant my rear transfer case is leaking. It’s been an ongoing issue. My throw out bearing is making a horrible squeaky noise when the clutch is engaging……which prompted this whole discussion…..I’m getting ready to pull the trans and transfer case to address the TB…I figured a good time to address the leaks as well…..I hate squeaks and leaks😂😂

Yeah, same reasons I dove into mine. My noise ended up being the pilot bearing.

If you decide to send to a shop, I believe @orangefj45 Georg at Valley Hybrids has a ton of experience rebuilding these too and is willing to receive/ship rebuilds. I got a speedo housing with the wider seal to fix my leaking unit from him.

We have lots of components to rebuild these in stock; rebuild kits, synchro rings, counter shafts and anything needed for the Tcase and e-brake.

We also rebuild these units in house; just finished on a couple of weeks ago.

Happy to help.

Georg is the man!
Just put it in a good box and ship it to him. Comes back looking and working like new.

Hi Georg,

Sorry for the late response. I’ve used your products in the past…always great service and products👍. Would you be able to give me a quote on a rebuild of 3 speed transmission and transfer case please? I would need to ship from Tx… I’m sure that’s not cheap🙄😂

Thank you Sir

Ben
