Matt, would you recommend i build a engine cart like yours vs. buying a HD foreign import version?
I think your refering to that red one that my engine was rolling around on? If that's the one my question is: Someone makes something like that???
I made that stand for a couple reasons. 1st, I had no plans to tear down the motor since it ran so good. But I did want some way to move it since I didn't know how long it was going to be before I rounded up a frame?
2nd, I knew I was going to be taking off the oil pan to blast and repaint. I wanted a stand that I could do that, what I made accomplished both tasks. Moveable and I was able to get the pan off.
Also wanted to be able to remove the tranny and T case with ease and be able to replace thar rear main seal.
I guess if you could buy one I would like to see a pic and cost? The one I made I used lawn mower tires and old round bailer tubing. I made it in about 40 minutes, quick and dirty....but now I'm done with it so it's scrap metal.
Matt
No, what i was saying was would you recommend i build one of your quick down and dirty rolling carts vs. going to Northern Tool or some place like that and buying a traditional engine stand. i like the idea of yours, but building sh!t takes time from working on the cruiser. Today, i built 4 body folding body panels vs. buying crappy metal folding ones. it took 4 hours tho and no work was done on the LV. but they are nice and now i have them. mark
I guess if your going to be rebuilding the motor I would goto Northern tool and buy an engine stand. Your going to be rolling it around while you rebuild it and will need to turn it upside down. You will have just the block on that stand.
If you have no intentions of rebuilding it, you could set it on the floor for that matter? Not sure how in depth your going to get into it?
If your going to be giving it the jiffy tune up and PPG overhaul like I did......I would build a stand similiar to mine then.
Matt
will be doing just as you said, tune up and detail paint cleanup. so i guess your stand is it. got any plans on that little baby? I have lots of old mower wheels laying around and some misc steel. i guess the only critical measurements are the motor mount spots? i do like the way you splayed the wheels out tho.
