Something seems wrong with that bezel, but I just can't seem to put my finger on it...

Got about an hour on the lpb tonight.

Pulled the Tranny and T case, that was easy. Pulled the clutch out and flywheel out and then got the bell housing off. Took some photos, thinking it's not the rear main that is leaking......the 2 oil plugs at 10 and 2 o clock positions......especially after reading this thread.

I'm still going to replace the rear main, but I think I need to replace those plugs now for sure.

Question, are those anything special or is any auto parts store going to have a selection of frost plugs that will work?

Thanks, Matt

Drop the four bolts that hold the rear main cap on and remove the rear seal by hand...

Clean up the mating surface of the maincap, after installing the new seal and call it good!

No beating on the seal. :)

Hi Steve,

What about those plugs above it? Anything special?? Pretty sure that is the source of the oil leak, on both.

Thanks, Matt

You should not have a problem sourcing them up there...

Matt,

That also might be from the oil getting slung around also.

But i would replace them also.

Having not seen those 2 plugs leak before at least oil I'd guess your oil leak was from the side cover gasket or the weep hole on the head. Isn't it coolant behind those two caps? Or if I remember corrctly the one at 2:00 is the cam?
YOu pulling the pan? if so shim the oil pump and or flip the drive gears over and call it good. You can cross drill the banjo bolt for more volume. All this is from memory so if yo do so take pics and post up and i'll be more helpful. Course poser would be much more helpful as his head is chock full of much more knowledge.

Cam is the larger plug and the oil galley is the small plug...hopefully there is not any coolant behind them ;)

dont forget about the input shaft seal and gasget on the transmission, they can dry out and crack also causing a leak that is hard to tell the diffrence from the motor, because it all ends up at the flywheel cover whether it is dope or motor oil.

Got about 4 hours on the lpb tonight.

Got home and fired up the sandblaster. Blasted the aircleaner assembly, oil pan, valve cover, front drive shaft and a few other misc. engine parts. Got all that hung up in the booth and shot a couple coats of DP90LF and then a couple coats of MTK single stage ureathane. Everything went as planned except for the oil pan. I can't I believe I didn't see it when I was blasting, let alone before I primed.....the oil pan had a dent in it. Took a pic of it after it was primed, that is when I noticed it. Needless to say I didn't paint the pan...I'll heat it up with the torch tomorrow and get the dent out. Just have to re-prime that area and then paint...oh well??

Worked a little on the rear main seal. I had a friend of mine and also one of the mechanics that works on heavy farm equipment at work come out at lunch and take a look at the seal. He didn't think that the plugs were leaking, he felt it was the rear main seal. Upon explaining his reasons, it did make sense and looked like it was just the rear main seal. So.....I did not pull those 2 plugs out, but I did pull the lower bearing cap off and replaced the main seal. With the lower cap off that was extremely easy to do. Also, got a new pilot bearing and installed that tonight as well, the old one was rougher than hell.

Anyway, hoping to get that pan straightened out tomorrow and get some paint on it. Also, get the Tranny and T case back on and start assembling painted engine parts.....

Got a about 1.5 on the lpb tonight.

Got home and started beating on that dent in the oil pan. That actually came out a lot easier than I thought? After about 10 minutes with the hammer /dolly it looked pretty damm good.

I fired up the blaster and blasted the dust shield....I had forgot to blast that the other day. Hung everything up...sprayed a couple coats of DP90LF on the dust shield and then shot 2 coats of MTK single stage on the shield and pan.

Have to work tomorrow night, so probably nothing is going to get done tomorrow. Hoping to get that pan on Friday night and a few other misc. things......if all goes well, get the front clip and cab off the frame and get the drive train back in it.
