My rig's info...

Location: San Diego
Date: Oct-1976
Engine #: 2F-094318
Frame #: FJ40-235416
Model: FJ40

Very cool project, btw. Thanks!

I did some digging and found a picture. Maybe the last digit is just a smudge? That would make the engine # 840165
That would make sense no?

I could double check but it is way to cold out (-14F as we speak)

That looks like a smudge to me.

That engine number is from more likely July of 76 according to the chart.

VIN FJ40-308759
06/1979
Engine # 580066
Build Date 90625

My engine # falling in with 81's, but the cast date is right in line with the chassis. Anyone know what gives?:hmm:

It has 61011 cast on the side and according to a few other posts on here, I'm guessing it was made October 11, 1976? I may be way off.

That is part of the part number. The full part number is 11411-61011. 2F version 1.1. The build date number is, IIRC, to the rear of that number. Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD at 85mph in an FJ40

Are you 100% sure it is not 380066.... 380066 would be in line with your date... Are you getting the engine number from the block or tag or both?

Jim C earlier in this thread stated that generally the casting dates of the engine and head are close to the production date of the vehicle. I found this to be true in my case. So don't know what's up with yours. Maybe a misreading of the number like JohnnyC indicates. Or swapped engine.

Man, I hope your right. I'm pretty sure all the numbers checked out before I bought it. The only picture I have with me, I can't make out the first digit. I'll report back. Hopefully I'll be telling everyone how dumb I am.

LOL. it's a wanna-be smudge disguised as an 8, methinks.

Phew!.... It's a 3 not a 5. The engine number is 380066. Threw up in my mouth a little there.

I updated the file with these latest entries and cleaned it up some more, specifically the charts.

The data that some folks provided is a little suspect, I'm looking at you kurtnkegger, cruisermike, and trainrech.

That list starts at 75, why?

Is the 2f a copy of an American (chevy?) engine that was used in the early 40 series?
Thats what i was told about a year ago a bloke who had a old ute with the yank engine in it, my 2f certainly looks like engines i've seen years ago in older trucks.

You aren't including the engine serial number along with that info

75 is when the 2F was introduced. This thread is about 2Fs. It is said that the earlier F series engine was originally modeled after a Chevy straight six, you can search for threads with more info on this forum. The 2F is an upgraded version with a better oiling system and more displacement among other things. Toyotas never had Chevy engines in them. Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD at 85mph in an FJ40
