One of the things I've been thinking about with the rebuild of my 2F is how the oil filter sits upside down and holds around 3/4 qt. of oil. Even with the antidrainback valve the oil can still drainback through the media and the center port best I can tell.

My buddy who has been wrenching for 35+ years was telling me that Dodge had a similar upside down filter at one time and had put a tube in to extend up beyond the threads to prevent drainback. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and how they did it. The only problem I see with this is a real mess when changing.

Another idea would be to use a remote filter mount, but that takes up space that is already at a premium.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I've never had a drain back problem with FL1s.....

Always a plentiful supply of lube after sitting for long spells......

My last cruiser would have the dry start noise for about 5 seconds before the pressure came up. I was running a Wix filter on it.

Way I see it, look at the many "how many miles on your Cruiser" threads and see how far these trucks go in stock form. Then ask yourself "is this mod REALLY neccessary to improve the longevity of the vehicle?" Screw in oil galley plug in the head is a neccessary item along with an aftermarket cam, a one piece cam gear and OEM head gaskets. In theory it sounds good but in practice might do more harm than good by blocking oil flow through the filter. YRMV of course!

oil mod

X2

The design is capable of hundreds of thousands of miles. Maintenance and driving habits probably have more to do with longevity than design

dont lug the engine or over-rev it
change all filters often
change oil often

she'll last ya
