Smog pump seized yesterday. Will limp on the a/c belt for now.

Is BZ rebuilders still the best option to rebuild the pump?

It sounds like others have had good luck with them?

It doesn't seem like anyone can even get a cardone pump.

I appreciate any tips!

If you’ve got to pass smog tests- then yeah. Get a rebuild.
But if not…
Install an idler pulley.

These pumps are getting exceedingly rare. SOR.com will sell you a rebuilt air pump for (gag reflex) $1100 but you HAVE to send them your old pump and it HAS to be a rebuildable core otherwise, no sale.

It’s an extreme option but at least it’s an option.

$1100. you must send in yours first before they will sell you one? or how would they know yours is rebuildable?
I'm sitting on a gold mine with all the ones I've got sitting on a shelf.

I've now ran into this problem myself, problem is I don't have a pump to rebuild. When mine seized it ovaled the hub that carries the vanes so at this point it's useless. Besides rebuilding your existing pump are there other options out there for pumps that could be used but with minor modifications? Just looking for options. On October 1st my 60 becomes undrivable due to lack of registration. Any help would be much appreciated.

Scott, I just pulled a pump off my truck and it spins etc. I can't say if its working properly or needs a rebuild. If you are interested, let me know and we can discuss details. Happy to sell it to a fellow mud inmate for a reasonable price to help out.

Cheers, James

That would be great, and I'm interested, would love to keep this 60 on the road with the existing 2F. I've been contemplating a 3FE swap or a 1HZ swap which I have accessible to me now, but that's a lot more work than I have time for right now. Message me with the details if you would please.

Thanks
Scott

I got the smog pump rebuilt at bz rebuilders.

it's been 100 miles or so since I put it in and I seem to still have some hum/whine out of it.

Is that normal?

Thanks!

Belt has needed to be retightened a time or two.

If I remember correctly their instructions say it will make noise for 500 miles. Mine made noise until about 800-900 miles. Weird chirps and screeches mostly, sometimes rhythmic sometimes random. I think I probably have 20k-30k miles on it now. Maybe more. It’s fine.

500 mile break in. Don't over tighten the belt. A full 1"deflection at longest point. Have the correct size belt that rides in the full width of all the pulley grooves.
