At 28:30… I thought the bit about the hitch being integrated (welded?) into the frame was interesting. No bolts. I stopped by a local dealer today and the new Tacoma appeared to be the same. Maybe this is how all the newer vehicles are set up. I don’t know. I guess the frame could be damaged either way, bolted on or not. Anyone know if the 200 or new Tundra is set up this way?
While the 200's hitch cover has the same stupid push pins, the cover itself is better integrated and not as ugly. It's still a pain to remove, though. The 200 is setup that way (integrated) and has been since MY 2008 fwiw. While I agree that it could lead to further damage in a rear-end collision, it’s not proven to be an epidemic in the 200/570 & other models. You’ll see the same in other modern and upcoming Toyota platforms. I don’t recall on the 24 Tundra, I’ll look. I do agree that the hitch cover is silly, the 200’s is on par fwiw.

I don't see the need, honestly. I've got I don't know how many zones in my 200. I can't remember the last time I used even the 2-zone feature. As long as there are vents to the second row, that's more than enough for me. It doesn't matter to me whether those vents are in the center console or overhead. Overhead vents are apparently significantly more expensive for the manufacturer. If the Overtrail trims can't be had with 3 zone/roof vents that will be a huge miss. The roof HVAC vents in my 3 zone 460 have ended up being one of my favorite features because being hot sucks so having more air conditioners with more vents is just more better. It makes things so much nicer for 2nd row passengers and/or dogs in the cargo area. I would think that could be a deal breaker for a lot of people, unless the market for $80,000 luxury off roaders is entirely childless and dogless couples with no friends.
Have you ever been in Florida in July and had to sit in the backseat of vehicle that has 2 puny vents coming out of the rear console?I don't see the need, honestly. I too am a HUGE fan of the 4-zone climate control in the 200. I believe all variants of the GX should have 3 zone (FR,FL, Rear) control but the vent placement is inconsistent based on trim level from the photos I've seen.Have you ever been in Florida in July and had to sit in the backseat of vehicle that has 2 puny vents coming out of the rear console?
It's also a matter of luxury and features; If I spend $80,000 on a Lexus I expect the Lexus to keep my passengers are comfortable as I am.
Yes. And it was just fine back there.Have you ever been in Florida in July and had to sit in the backseat of vehicle that has 2 puny vents coming out of the rear console?
I have been just as comfortable. I don't see the issue. It's also a matter of luxury and features; If I spend $80,000 on a Lexus I expect the Lexus to keep my passengers are comfortable as I am.
Totally. And that's why as I have said before, I am thorn between the Land Cruiser LC250 (mid pack) and not able to just get the simpler and more utilitarian 1958, and the GX550 Overtrail (and +) with the eKDSS but -apparently- not AC roof vents.I too am a HUGE fan of the 4-zone climate control in the 200. So I finally got to see the GX550 Overtrail in person yesterday. Overall I’m pleased with how it looks and drives. My one concern is what IS hanging low under the chassis. Both the muffler? (might be the cat converter because it’s so far forward, but it’s huge and low. Didn’t have time to examine more closely) and fuel tank sit 2-3 inches BELOW the side frame rails (though not below the cross member). Much lower than my LX which is nicely tucked. The model I saw had the stock rock rails which are clearly not intended to be sliders because they sit slightly above the frame. If you high centered a berm/rock ledge in this config I’d be seriously concerned about catching and tearing off the muffler.big takeaways: diffs- stronger ball bearings vs tapered bearings in the rear. And front diff-stronger side bearing. housing is thinner but triangulated from diff out.
-10spd trans gearing and keeping the rpms in low range throughout. Toyota shooting for longevity and less stress on motor via the trans vs displacment.
-waaay less low hanging fruit underneath. Tcase and everything all tucked up nicely....will make for easy addition of skidplates under tcase and less getting hung up on rocks if you do that sort of thing.
Check out some of the videos in the picture thread. One YTuber did a great walkthrough with the truck on the lift for a base model. So I finally got to see the GX550 Overtrail in person yesterday. Has anyone who’s seen the vehicle noticed this and share concerns?

Any ideas where this 600lb weight difference is coming from? That's a substantial amount, especially considering the LC is a hybrid. Are they potentially wrong on the weight?
