I haven't done Black Bear, but I would like to. It is my understanding that it isn't hard, just unforgiving of inattention.
Another that should be a county road but if they changed it more stupid people would drive in and kill themselves and others. Outside the sheer drop and the chance someone will freak out from altitude, the pass is nothing. That and a few multipoint switchbacks.

You could say that :)

Just messing around, but with 34.5" tires and a 3 in ride height increase. the LC will have a 45º approach, 34º departure and 32º breakover.

I don't believe that is accurate. Only half of the increase in tire diameter will fall below the axle and the other half will remain above the axle so the increase in ground clearance will be 1.45 inches.

Correct, just the tire will raise it 1.45", but I also increased the suspension ride height by 3".

So it is sitting 4.45" higher.

Isn't the rear diff pumpkin the limiter on solid axle trucks. So you only gain ground clearance from tire size.

Should come over there one day to try the 16 consecutive switchbacks to get to the barracks of the Viraysse Fort (which I think was the highest fort of Europe in the 19th century).
Very fun when you don't have PS 😂

And this is the same trail to go up and down so you have to maneuver in the corners to cross oncoming traffic.
All of them are 3 points turns with the 40, 5 points turns with a 100 and 7 points turn with a Troopy or pickup 😅

I have a terrible YouTube video of the ride on my dirtbike years ago. This is the waterfall section at the top. The scariest, most narrow part of the trail. I was able to pass this jeep with no issues, on the drop off side of the jeep. Amazing bucket list trail but hardly a challenge.

Yes, one way to get more clearance under the differential pumpkin, on a solid axle, is to increase the tire diameter. Another expensive option is to get portals.

The differential pumpkin doesn't have any effect on the approach or departure angle though. It might have an effect on breakover depending on where the pinion is located.

Why don't people talk about Portal axles more? Are they pretty fragile? I know some G-Wagons have factory portals and I see they have them aftermarket for Tacoma/4Runner now. But I never see much talk about them here.

Very expensive.

The biggest downside to KDSS is that it's really harsh in the mid speed range. On the 10-20mph trails, it's jarring. IMO the sway bar is too big for the 4Runner weight. I've never understood is why Toyota didn't offer a KDSS option with a smaller diameter sway bar. Especially in the TRD Pro model.
Bypass switch from Dr KDSS is worth every penny.
I make my own for my GX470 and it is really help comfort and grip on fast gravel road.

KDSS failed by leaking. Also, damn bolts consistently corroded and seized bc of the material they were made from and location.
Mine been problem free with almost 200K.
Some 5th gen 4runner and GX460 develop nasty clunk when the piston came loose from the rod. Not hard to replace the ram but most dealer are not familiar and will charge arm and leg for it.

I really like KDSS. It's only available on GX550 Overtrail. It's not even available in other trim. That is like the DNA of GX and Land Cruiser. Don't know how the new chassis would handle without KDSS.

I started a separate thread for this question, but it was suggested I post it here:

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am strongly considering purchasing a 2024 LC250, but the thought that more interesting trims and colors may be offered for the next model year is giving me pause.

To be clear, I think the LC looks great, and the specs are more than I would ever need coming from an '09 Subaru Forester, but seeing it alongside the 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter makes it looks more pedestrian. No factory lift, no A/T tires, no Bronze Oxide.

Being that the First Edition is limited to only 5000 units, and that it will not be offered for the 2025 MY, it seems silly that there would only be two trims for the 2025 MY, the 1958 and self-titled Land Cruiser.

What are the odds they add a few more trims for the 2025 MY? What are your predictions on what may be offered? There looks to be vestigial cup holders in the cargo area, so I'm wondering if a 3rd row will be added by removing the large battery. I would love to see the TTV6, but honestly I would be happy with just a more aggressive off-road package. Maybe there will be some desirable factory accessories that will be announced later for the 2024 MY.

Glad to be part of the community! Just trying to avoid FOMO if things get more interesting next year!

Wait until 2025 and see what the new 4Runner looks like, and then decide. I would buy 1. the GX550 Overtrail 2. Tacoma Trailhunter or probably 3. the 2025 4Runner Trailhunter before I would buy the new 250.

Your list is not far off from mine. If the 250 came in a Trailhunter trim with similar looks to the Tacoma Trailhunter, that would be #1 for me. Green and TTV6 would be a bonus. That is basically a GX Overtrail in Nori, but IMO a similar equipment package in the LC 250 would look even better and would be less $$.

Save for the lack of KDSS, how does the stock suspension on the LC250 compare to the GX550 OT? Are they similar heights and technology? Would just throwing 33" A/Ts on the LC250 may it a near copy of the GX setup?

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet. Maybe the couple folks who were at the reveal who also know enough to tell the difference. Likely they are the same. GX gets V6 and ekdss while LC gets sway disconnect and hybrid. My guess is ride height and everything else is roughly the same.
