I am very disappointed in this vehicle. No manual transmission even though they put it in the Tacoma? Just a 4 popper engine option? A full non-painted plastic bumper? No split tailgate? No KDSS option? The front bumper is too big and the grill is too small… just really weird proportions all around. The B team at Toyota designed this 250 and the A team designed the 300 series.

Why even buy this new cruiser when the sequoia starting price is around the same as the cruiser? You get so much more utility with the sequoia even in the lowest base spec for just a little more money.

A used 200 series is better in every single aspect apart from the MPG. But how much is it going to cost to replace the battery and turbo when those go out? Vs the additional gas cost from driving the V8 (and not to mention the additional power and sound the V8 produces and KNOWN reliability).

Shame on Toyota for bringing this to the US and not giving us the lower spec 300 (if they were trying to target a lower price point).

What a disgrace to the iconic Land Cruiser name in the States.

Even the outgoing 4Runner is better than this and you can still buy it brand new off the showroom floor at a much cheaper price.

Sorry for the rant, but this is a HUGE letdown.

So much negativity!

I love it. Times change and the Land Cruiser is Toyota doing what it needs to do to keep up. "Simple" Land Cruisers will still exist in copious quantities for those who want to buy them. For most, this will be a great trajectory for the LC to go. Throw some skids/sliders on them, trim the bumpers, and you're good to run most trails. Also, forced induction is fun.
Lot’s of old guys shaking their fist at the clouds tonight.

So the base model has no sway bar disconnect? A used 200/lx570 will likely have more articulation in that case.

Not gonna lie, this is channeling too much of the new ford bronco sport vibes.

8 speed AT...wow, lots of compromises

TWIN-TURBOCHARGED POWER

The all-new GX features a highly capable and efficient twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine paired with a 10-speed-Direct Shift automatic transmission. This engine has been engineered to produce an impressive 349 horsepower* and 479 lb-ft of torque* all while providing smooth and steady power delivery both on- and off-road. And for GX Premium, Premium+ and Overtrail grades equipped with the standard tow hitch, towing capacity has increased to 8,000 pounds.*

At the end of the day, this will most likely sell more than any previous LC has in the US ( maybe ever)
& that is what matters to them at the end of the day.

Also, a lot of people are hating on this because they aren't viewing it from the perspective of the fact that at the end of the day this isn't the flagship LC.
It is a Land Cruiser yes, regardless of Prado badges in some market but also it is the ''fun - family friendly - relatively affordable'' LC. You know overlander instagram style, yes exactly that. That is the whole DNA of light duty LC. & Even the we don't know to what extent they mean ''Light Duty'' Maybe its just a simple swap of a few bolt on parts and boom you have a 300 which is anything but light duty in the mechanical sense. So let's not judge that phrase too quickly.

It looks like a very fun offering, and I am sure lots of people will love it.

Now if I was to nitpick, I would say I can definitely see a lot of cost cutting in this new 250 compared to previous Prado.
First of all, no KDSS, at all. Yes front sway bar disconnect but KDSS was well..KDSS.
Manual hood prop...old Prado had hood struts.
120 Prado had AHC and 150 had rear height control ( I am talking Toyota version not Lexus )
so in some aspects it does go backwards ( yes I know most of you guys don't want AHC) just stating that in some ways they did lose some things.

I wish they had a 1GR option for rest of the world, but sadly that isn't the case...
Anyway we will learn more in the coming days about this great vehicle.

Also I can definitely see this clashing with 4runner sales in the future.
Will the 4runner guys leave the 4runner to get the 250? They seem like a pretty loyal bunch.

You will not like this answer, but the reputation of Toyota engineering and manufacturing with Land Cruiser, more than any other vehicle made, commands the benefit of the doubt with regard to capability, reliability, durability, and longevity. If it gets so badged, then so it will be. That's how it is -- that's quality.

That sounds like a Marketing word salad. I have been driving Land Cruisers my entire life, for fifty-two years. So you are preaching to the choir. I just want to know specifically what it is about this engine that inspires trust, that’s the word used in the Toyota reveal tonight and one we all recognize. My 1988 FJ70 has a 4cyl 2.4 liter TD and I could recite chapter and verse about the engine’s characteristics and qualities. Tell me about this new engine if you have any specific experience and knowledge. If not please store the Marketing.

Do you work for Toyota?

Just a prediction

Significant numbers of people who have been waiting on sidelines for Toyota to actually bring a viable competitor to the Bronco/Wrangler segment are now off the fence and moving towards the exits.

Watch jeep/wrangler sales jump in coming months and later to Ford as they address production issues.

It is not a bad truck, just an overpriced and unnecessary one.

Do you think any possibility at all they may try bringing in a GR sport LC300 in the future to the US?
very limited number and just see how that goes? It would clash with the LX 600 though I guess...
it would be expensive no doubt because forget about a cheaper US 300 now they have the 250.

Anyone have a kit yet to unleash the TTV6 in the closest thing we will get to the 2024 LC? Mild lift to downsize to 20's and 35's maybe lol.... @cruiseroutfit the pressure is on to bring something useful to Loveland! 24 days and counting!!
