Yes, I actually also own a 2013 GRJ79. It is used mainly as a farm truck/to carry camping gear when we head out to the desert in winter.
I don't have any urge to upgrade to a newer model because no update since then really was worth upgrading for honestly, not even the diesel v8 ( perfectly happy with the 1GR).
I look forward to see what they offer for 2024 onwards, I don't think ill be upgrading anytime soon, but I am still very excited for the updates.

I still like the wagons more. I have owned 80/100/200/300. I would rank 100 as my all time favorite (mainly out of sentimental value and because I think the LC100 is the best looking land cruiser - followed closely by the LC300 ( which is the best to drive ).

Would love to have a 1GR in my ’88 FJ70. I pretty much max out at 110 kms hr with the 4 TD in mine and that makes any trip on the autoroute problematical so I never drive there, just back roads and work on my farm. The modern FJ70 is much more polyvalent than the old, but
like you, I am very keen to see the new version but will probably not upgrade. But never say never. And I would also like to spend some more time driving a 300 GR as it is a real temptation. The way people drive anywhere I live, I want as big a tank around me as possible, and one with offroad cred is a big bonus. Have you driven many of the US trucks? On this trip I drove the RAV4, 4Runner, Sequoia and Bronco for the first time. Only the Sequoia left me puzzled. Cheers.

Yes I have. US trucks are very popular here. As for Toyota, we used to get the 4runner until the early 90s and the Sequoia from 2009-2016.

And they're the same thing. So pricing the same makes sense. The new LC is a different animal. The new 4runner if it ever exists, might be different - we really have no idea what it'll be. If the old relationship holds then 4runner should be priced basically the same. Always has been between the two.

I am not sure what Prado pricing you guys are talking about. I see that there are 3 door Prados in some markets and 2.7L 4 cylinder Prados in others. Surely you are not trying to use those in you argument. I just picked Chile and looked at their 5 door Prado vs 5 door 4Runner 4x4 prices and in USD the Prado is $55k and the 4Runner is $47k.

I'm not thinking its going to start in the mid 30's, I am saying that's where the 250 makes sense in every non US market on the planet.

The 4Runner and Prado hold the same price point. What is the LC going to offer over a 4runner that warrants a 10k premium. its the same vehicle... No different than GMC Seira and Chevy Silverado.

While the 4Runner was very similar to the Prado in the past, we don’t know what it will be in the future. We know that the LC 250 will be the new Prado. Will the 4Runner be a stripper LC 250? Or will it be something different, closer to the 2024 Taco with a shorter wheelbase? Time will tell.

4Runner starts at $40k and goes to $55k. The most recent Land Cruiser 200 MSRP was around $87k. However, it has been widely agreed that the very low volume of 200s sold in the US was due, in part, to its high price. So I think Toyota will be bringing the price of the LC 250 down market. I think 4Runner < LC 250 < GX550

For those asking about the tail gate and roll down window. After having many T4R's, that is one of the best features of them. You can use the tail gate for shadow while camping, and you can roll down the back window to access whole close, and also you can roll down all the car windows including the sunroof and it flreally felt like a convertible, the air flows very nicely... Forgot to add, also if you have doggies... They love the back rolled windows ! Similar to how they love the side windows in the LC80!!!

And, even though T4R's ARE indeed absolutely gorgeous and capable vehicles, they ain't LC's. Many reasons to say why, won't bother you with that.

I cannot wait for Tuesday !

This was / is true at the late cycle for the T4R and LC200... But, partly because the COVID effect and expo vehicles, the T4R went higher in price. At the onset of them, the T4R were in the low $30k's whilst the LC200 was in the hight $70's to 80's. The gap was reduced , but it started wider.

I would be keen to hear your thoughts as I know nothing about the 4Runner expect what I learned from a mornings test drive. About the 1Gr and transmission issue I could not reproduce any of the common negatives during my drive but that could very well be the effect of my style of driving. You may proceed your honor..

They are not the same truck but they share many components. Just like how the 4Runner and FJ Cruiser were not the same truck but shared many components. The only American "Prado" was the GX.

Not gonna lie, it might be difficult convincing the 5.7 guys to go for a 4cyl LC.

The diehard 5.7 guys barely accept the 3.5 twin 6 on the 300/310.

Having now owned both a Tundra and 200 Series with the 5.7 it’s a fine engine. Good power and a nice warm resonance but at 10-12 mpg I do feel kind of gluttonous at times. Hopefully the hybrid 4 can deliver a healthier combination of power and efficiency.

I just checked it this AM. With my zip code set, 02142, base price for TRD Pro is $54,620, about $55,200 with the most expensive option pack.

Oh don't get me wrong, the twin 6 in the 300 is way more powerful to drive than the 5.7. Obviously its a more powerful engine but also a big part of it is the weight loss the 300 went through.

To put things in perspective, a 1GR 200 / 1GR 300 have the same engine, no changes in horsepower or torque. What changed was the weight of the vehicle. It made the 1GR on the 300 feel like a different engine, much better to drive.

So I keep imagining how amazing the 5.7 might have been on the 300...oh man I guess we can keep dreaming. Though I bet someones gonna swap one down the line.
