I recently purchased a 2017 land cruiser and am trying to update the maps. I purchased SD card #86271-0E073 and the navigation unit can't seem to read it. Hunting around on google and these forums I haven't been able to find a guide on how to update the maps, seems like the earlier 200 series use CD's and most folks in the later 200 series forego updating. I live in a part of texas thats seen a ton of new construction and don't like to drive with my phone out so updating maps would be nice.

Does anyone know how to update the maps or know of a thread or guide?

No clue, I figured you just stuck the SD card in and it ran an update, but now I am curious as well lol. What part of Texas are you in? Your signature still shows Colorado btw.

Where did you get the card?

Even if it’s the latest map data, it will be outdated already if you live in a rapidly growing location. I think Toyota only does updates once a year for the data on cards and CDs.

You can purchase an SD card from any Toyota dealer.
I bought the 20' version and they installed it into my 16'.

Roughly $200 for a card.

I just looked to see if there is an update for 2021 but couldn't find anything. I thought they issued updated maps in November. I'm wondering if Toyota has given up on updates?🤷‍♂️

Seems likely. Probably extremely low demand. The part number that would be for ‘21 comes up empty. Even if available it would be several months out of date already.

I was gonna buy one but its half a good carplay unit.

But, I believe its in the menu.

Reviving this thread. Last year purchased my 2016 LC200. Checked the map data and it is from 2015. Now I understand that having the map data on a cd or rom is problematic when it comes to updates but I'm still interested in the $210 option for the 2021 update 86271-gn8lc-21 update that is 2020 data but newer than 2015. So at the Toyota dealer today I want to parts and the woman working there said "People never buy these because they are out of date by the time they arrive at the dealership." Fair enough but I've been is quite a few situations where the lack of cell service renders Google Maps useless. Is it possible to get an update map MSD card off Ebay or wherever that works in the LC200 and doesn't cost $210? I'm ok for an older version of the Map data since 2015 is out of the question. FYI I come from the Boston area and we did this project called the Big Dig under Boston years ago and my map data doesn't know about it. Kind of interesting how it tries to take me places that no longer exists, then redirect me into circles. See what I mean?

Buy from the dealer.
You are taking a $200 gamble on Ebay.

Looking on Ebay I can find an older version but none mention compatibility with the LC200. Thought they were compatible based on the generation of the NAV software unit.

Per my earlier post, I've also been looking for an update that's better than the one I have in my 2018. I get it that they're probably a year out of date the minute you get them but 1 year out of date is better than 5+ LOL. I really wish Toyota would quit doing this because they suck at it, IMHO. We specifically did NOT order the NAV packages in our other Toyota cars because of this. Instead we've used Garmin nav units which are much better than anything I've seen from Toyota. So if Toyota thinks it's going to make money selling nav updates their thinking might be a little off.

Re google maps: we recently took a trip up and down Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway in VA where we know we would not have cell service. In anticipation of this we downloaded the maps of the area we planned to visit and didn't have a problem the whole time. Obviously without network connectivity you don't get real time traffic and searches won't work.

Use offline maps

After you download an area, use the Google Maps app just like you normally would. If your internet connection is slow or absent, your offline maps will guide you to your destination as long as the entire route is within the offline map.

I recently updated my navigation mapping in my 2017 LC with the most recent available update and it worked. The part # is 86271-gn8lc-21 direct from the supplier, "Welchsoft referenced the same part#. It cost me $190.00. Here are pics of the part# and map screen after the update for reference.

Where did you actually get the update? My dealer said once that I put in the order, they will have no idea when the update will be sent to them. Not generally kept in stock.

$190? Will this work in my LX? Dealer quoted $350, same thing on ebay...

I searched for even newer versions, the -21 gave seems to be the latest.

I ordered mine through Sansone Toyota and received it w/in a week. When I placed the order they told me since it was being shipped direct from the supplier they didn't have an ETA. I also called Ed Martin Toyota and they were able to get it as well and would ship to me. Both links below.
