Hi everyone,
First-time poster here, but a long-time admirer of this community. I absolutely love my 2015 LX 570 — it’s been an incredibly reliable vehicle, and part of why I bought it was because of LC's reputation.

That’s why I was a bit surprised when my mechanic pointed out what appears to be significant wear on one of my control arm bushings (pics attached). The truck has only 110,000 miles, has been well-maintained, and has not seen much off-road use.
I’d love to get the perspective of other LX and Land Cruiser owners:

  • Does this amount of wear at 110K miles seem normal for these trucks?
  • Have you had to replace your control arm bushings around this mileage?
  • Is this something that should be addressed right away, or can it wait without risking other components?
Appreciate any insight you can share. Thanks in advance!

Looks normal and better than mine at 140,000 miles. Last year I picked up LCAs during a Toyota parts sale (approx $250 each) and will install sometime in the near future. I am not in a real hurry as there is no abnormal noises, handling or tire wear.

Replace them eventually (and buy parts yourself), but this doesn't need to be immediate. They're nearing 11 years old now and rubber just ages -- I wouldn't overthink it.

Most likely the truck is on a 2-post lift which means the front suspension is dropped out, which twists the bushings and makes all of that look a lot worse than it does at normal ride height.

Those are probably not cracked all the way through. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get to 200k without a noticeable hit to handling or alignment.

And the ball joints? Totally normal. I’d bet (a little) money there isn’t any play at all.

That said, you can get new Genuine Toyota control arms (which include inner bushings and outer ball joint) for about $300 each on one of the seasonal parts sales online. I have a pair sitting on the shelf waiting for me to find the time to install. My originals are around 225k and still function fine, but the cracking is starting to trigger my OCD.

What he said ^

When the bushings are twisted (i.e. suspension dangling on a lift) they look a lot worse than they actually are. Look under with a flashlight at ride height and they probably look fine. Also, when your bushings are actually shot, you'll feel it in sloppy handling and even clunking if they get bad enough. Let 'em ride. I replaced my 80 bushings at about 315k and they were definitely due at that point (i.e. I noticed a significant improvement in ride and handling), but they were still semi-serviceable.

I see nothing wrong with the ball joint boots pictured.

Thanks a bunch everyone! I'll leave as is for now and keep an eye out on toyota eom sales to have parts on hand when the time comes (hopefully not soon :)).
