Looking for some guidance. Just purchased a 2013 Lx with 100k on it. AHC is working and I would like recommendations to make it look a little more off road without ditching the AHC. The simpler the better; in central Arkansas so not a ton of people around to instill.
Would like some recommendations on the following.

1. Bumpers front and back (if able to do and keep AHC) if not just front
2. Sliders
3. Wheel and tire combos.
4. Roof rack

Thanks in advance!

I made my mods in order of MY perceived degree of importance. Others will differ, this was just my order of importance.
My first mods were Bud Built skids.

Second were larger tires and mild lift (but done at time of first).

Third, rear locker (but done at time of first).

Forth, Bud Built sliders, ARB front bumper, and rock lights.

There’s only one front bumper specifically designed for the lx and it’s made by dissent…though most land cruiser bumpers will work.

I think there’s only one rear bumper specifically designed for the lx and it’s made by slee. I don’t know how difficult it is to make the land cruiser rear bumpers work.

There are three slider manufacturers for the lx. I do not think land cruiser sliders will work.

The following are the “go to” tire choices while keeping suspension stock (32.5”-32.9” tires).
285 70 r17
285 65 r18
275 60 r20

Roof rack from front runner looks best imo. Though dissent roof rack is interesting, lightweight, and low profile (in height).

Asks for simpler build, first line proceeds to wish for bumpers. ;)

All good and AHC is easily up for it any and all of that.

For tires, I'd encourage you to go larger. Don't have to stop at the sizes you commonly see for LCs, as the LX can fit bigger and wider. Look for something that specs in overall size between 33-34" and 12" (295-305). Pair that with +35 offset, and drop in with minimal work.

Get a good set of tires and call it a day. You can go with a decently large size tire on an LX.

AHC lift + wheel/tire is my vote for first mods 100% like everyone has stated.
It will make the stock LX look very respectable just as it is and best bang for the buck. (by far if you already need tires)

When going from stock skim milk (30-31"), 2% reduced fat (32") and full fat whole milk (33-34") are going to be a tremendous upgrade and require very little modifications.
We have some lovely LXs here also on half/half (34-35") that needs some work to pull off, and even some on heavy cream (37") that involve a lot more than just trimming.

Point is with enough fat, bumper clearance/angles become less limiting and is the best place to start. The fattiest on MUD seem to not even have aftermarket bumpers.

Nice. Where does butter fit in? Tallow?

Well starting on the light end which i omitted, there also exists whipped cream (low pros), but you're right, im not sure anyone has ventured into buttermilk (38"), or just plain butter territory (40"+) yet on the far end of that.

Hey,

I’m in central Ark as well. There are a few other LXs here on the forum, and a few LCs. There’s a monthly meetup in LR that a FB group (Natural State Overland) organizes. I haven’t managed to be available to get to one yet, but it looks like a good time. Meetup in WLR with a trail ride.

I’ll second what most have said. Start with bigger ATs. I wouldn’t think of going smaller than 33s. I recommend finding 17” wheels, but plenty of people have been able to utilize their stock 20s. And there are lots of 18” OEM Toyota options from LC and Tundras. If going OEM 20” or 18” (generally means +60mm offset) you’ll probably want/need some 1 to 1.25” spacers.

If you plan to use your roof rack, you’ll want something better than the overly short LX rack. Either OEM LC or something aftermarket.
