2013 Black Balsam Oct 25-27

Originally set for November, we're moving the date back to October 25-27 (same as last year) to see better fall colors up in the Blue Ridge Mtns. This is a great event for the resto-mods and those that don't want to stress their Cruiser (or their passengers). A winding, paved route is plotted through the always scenic Blue Ridge Parkway.

Both Friday and Saturday night we will be camping out at Black Balsam off the Blue Ridge parkway. The trail is about a mile long and is what I would consider mild-moderate. You will get pin striping from branches hanging out in the road so be prepared but shouldn't be anything that couldn't be buffed out. All stock 4x4 vehicles can make this. Marshall drove his unlocked 80 in several times. You will hit bottom but nothing a Toyota cannot handle.

as good as ive gotten showing up late and trying to sleep under the truck I dont think im going to make this one. A great trip for sure and a great intro to those not in the know Kajun.

LOL yeah you rescued my kids that night for sure. I know that one night our 80 rocked all night long, from the wind, with all 4 of us packed into the back.

I had planned to make this trip and bring one of my girls (ages 6 & 8) when it was scheduled for November. I'll try to move things around given the change in dates. Kids are out if school that Friday so I imagine we'll be able to arrive at a decent time.

Just read That Pisgah inn has been ordered to close down by 6pm tommorow. Govt. Owns building and land. Operator told them to shove it! I assume this mess will be over before we go to black balsam but if not the parkway may be closed down.

Parkway is open, but black balsam will be closed if the gov't is shut down. There just won't be any where to stop and use facilities except on the side of the road during the ride.
