This hurts to type... really, I might need some medication to get me through this.

Life is going to come between us and the trip this year. My daughter is moving that weekend and will need help, and she has an internship that runs through the 10th so I just can't leave her hanging. Plus she'll be going back to school for her senior year and this might be the last summer I have with her and as much as I like all of you, spending some quality time with her wins out. She just got the internship so we just found out what her schedule was going to be. My original plan was to bring her along... she loves trips like this!

I am tentatively planning to hit Cruiserfest in September so I will most likely get my West trip in this year, but it won't be the same. At least I got the sticker, but will feel like a poser if I put it up.

Dammit!

Aw man! You're being a good dad, though, so props to straight priorities...

Unlike.

You can't get these times with your children back. Not just the right choice, but the best choice. We will have other LC gatherings in the West and in Colorado. In fact, I was going to post on this thread that those who want to come out early or late but can't do Moab should consider the area around Buena Vista. More on that in a separate post but I was also thinking that this might be a good place for our next Colorado gathering. So there will be more.

As I mentioned in my previous post, for those who want to explore a bit more around central Colorado before or after the Breckenridge gathering I suggest you look into the area around Buena Vista and Leadville. Much more camping is available. And plenty of trails of various difficulty. BV is less "refined" than Breckenridge and the surrounding Summit County as BV is not built around a ski resort. But it has lots to offer and may be a good place for us to gather at some time in the future. For trails you have everything from Weston Pass and Aspen Ridge (both very pretty yet easy drives) to Mosquito Pass and the drive to Tin Cup. There is also the Four Mile off road area which is fun to drive but not technically challenging. As for camping there are forest service campgrounds, dispersed camping and RV parks. And there is always a day trip over Independence Pass to Aspen or Cottonwood Pass down the Taylor River to Crested Butte. These aren't 4x4 roads but they are very cool drives. Its not an area like Ouray but it could be a good option. So if anyone wants to check it out while you're here let me know. I may have some time on the front end to join you.

We love that area and spent a couple nights camping on Tin Cup Pass last summer. It's very scenic with lots of good trails and good dispersed camping options too. I would post pics, but at that point in time I was driving a four letter word :D

Jeepers creeper, Matt! Why were you doing that? ;) (Then again, all of my pics of that area have our old LR4 in them!)

We do like that area. We usually plan a couple weeks up there every summer. September is nice if you catch it when the aspen are turning. The Aspen Ridge trail (a fairly new one) is amazing when the aspen turn.

Haha! Triple locked, 37s, and low gears made me do it...but I'm glad I've returned to the fold - heated steering wheel, cooled seats, radar cruise, actual sound deadening and all :)

Ok I actually found some safe photos to post of the area. It would be a nice fall trip if folks are interested in planning another outing later this year. These were taken around 4th of July and the pass was still snowed in, so we had to hike to the other side.

Great dispersed camping spots (our tent and fire were set up about 30 feet behind this pic tucked away):

Dammit!

Dammit. Bummer

Hey Steen completely understand. We'll miss you this year!

Looks like a ton of cruisers heading up. We hope to hear from my wife's work this month about her schedule in August before we make a decision. While we're waiting on that and considering so many cruisers are heading up, can you guys name some of the trails we'll be hitting in Breckenridge area? I figured I'd try and look them up on youtube to see if any videos exist of those trails. I'm all out of expedition overland videos. =(

Ronny Dahl videos should be enough to get your fix.

When I first read 200's in Breckenridge I was so excited...then seen the dates and was sad again. My wife is a school teacher and school here in Georgia starts back Aug 1. Pre planning last week in July :(( So we are planning a solo trip to this area mid July. So if a group ride is organized for earlier dates I'll be out there!!

Sorry you can't make it. There are plenty of us around the area. if you start a thread the day you'll be up there, I'm sure you can get a small group. Lots of trails to choose from.

Any word on trails and difficulty for this trip? Looks like we'll likely be leaving Thursday morning, which means I'll be there to wheel on Saturday, but most likely not beforehand. Sliders are on, but no lift and I'm still on stock tires (yeah I know I should get some KO2s but with at least 20k left on the current set I'm hard pressed to drop $1-2k on new tires and RWs right now). Kids braces really put a dent in my upgrade plans for this summer.
