Just as a counter data point mine made it to 217k with no issues on the original radiator. Since the valley plate was leaking I went ahead and did the radiator also.

I preemptively lightly sanded the area and put a layer of JB Weld Plastic Epoxy down on the suspect spot. Rated for up to 500F. Will monitor regularly.

Doing 80 mph in 90 degree heat today. Popped the hood a few minutes ago just for the heck of it to stare at my engine and found..... pink.
Really surprised, there was no sign of anything going wrong at all. There is no coolant left in the overflow and I don't see any in the rad. It's not leaking from anywhere else so I'm 99% sure the top of the rad popped. 139k miles on the clock. Here comes the $ fun...

Is that a plastic epoxy repair/patch I see? Was it preventative or applied after a leak/seep?

I never used any patch and I inspected that area of the radiator monthly.

FYI dealer did mine under extended warranty but it would've been about $750 for the radiator and labor at the local Toyota dealer (who has pretty fair pricing)

I have the parts for the cooling system already. I bought them last year when I bought the LX. I thought about doing the job myself but the timing is good to drop it off at the shop I use and add the starter, plugs, replacing the trans fluid and new brakes to the list.
Can I add distilled water to the rad, leaving the cap lose and driving the LX to the shop which is about 20 minutes away?

Yes.

Did you also buy the fan support assembly?

When doing mine at 160,000, that was the only part that showed any discernible wear.

Thanks for the pics and explanation above. It looks like you attempted a patch in the first picture you posted.

Just checked my new-used 2013 LX 570, very obvious. No evidence of a leak though...yet. Will plan to replace radiator, water pump, belts, pulley, tensioner and anything else in the way in the next week or two.

I have the fan support thanks for that info. I ran my finger around the square right before I took the pic. The spot that was still damp, but I couldn't see any crack in the plastic.

Can the starter be replaced without pulling the exhaust intake off if it's on a lift?

Here's a pic of a gallon jug of Toyota red from a year ago and a gallon jug from today. The caps are totally different in color and what is written.

Sealed glycol doesn’t go bad. So long as they’re both from a reputable dealer, not amazon or eBay, should be GTG

Toyota Pink (i.e. SLLC) is the only coolant recommended by Toyota for my LC200, so I've never seen a jug of Toyota Red... :meh:
