Has anyone done this (or would it even work) I am about to swap out the air ride to a regular rear suspension. Is there any way to repurpose the stock compressor and hook it to a manual switch and then run a line out that you could hook an air hose to for air back up after airing down. Thoughts? :)

I remember some discussion about this and I think the consensus was the duty cycle of the stock pump was not up to reinflating the tires and would burn up/die.

I was going to look at hooking it up to Firestone or Airlift air bags for when I tow stuff

I hooked up a bubble maker to mine, so I can blow bubbles as I ride down the trail. Perfect for letting others know your location.

I used mine to anchor the trash can

I have my stock compressor attached to Airlift bags in my rear springs to level when I'm pulling my trailer. It works for that, but I wouldn't expect anything else from it.

Thats what I plan to do. did you hook it up to the leveling sensor from the stock bags?

Yep, I did the spring swap leaving everything from that system in place except for the airbags themselves. I put in the springs with an airbag inside of them and routed the existing air line to the new Airlift bags. Uses same compressor and sensors. Works the same except you can't go to the Low setting. I had to adjust the sensors slightly to have the "normal" setting match the level where the airbags are just deflated. If the airbags or compressor goes out, I won't know unless I put it in the "High" setting or if I pull a trailer.

Are you serious? A bubble maker? This is the best mod i have come across yet! Please walk me thru the install of the bubble maker. Pics are a bonus. I want one!

I plan to install Metal Tech isolators and mounts (top and bottom), FJ springs, and Airlift 1000 leveling bags in my '06 GX this weekend. I want to connect the airlift to my working factory compressor and allow the height sensors to level when I tow my boat.
Does anyone have any advice for how to run the airlines, how to connect them to the new bags, or how much of the upper isolators to cut off?
The instructions say to run them down through the lower mounts but that's where the Metal Tech mounts will be.

Could these airlift bags perhaps be used to level a roof top tent...? That'd sure be slick. No more parking on a rock or maxtrax

That is an interesting idea. With the way they attach would it be less secure while traveling down the trail?

I don't know what you mean by that...

I was thinking (with absolutely zero knowledge of the system) about leaving airbags in the springs and somehow making them level the rear when I parked for the night.

Wow that makes more sense than what I was picturing. I thought you meant to put them under the tent itself then use the bags to level the base of the tent not the whole rig. Like a little airbag at each corner of the tent base that would auto level once you parked for the night.

I have been wanting to play with it to see how it can do on tires. I has to have some volume to fill the bags, but thinking it must lack in PSI.

I’m interested in results if anyone has tried this. Also, since the wiring and space is there, perhaps just replace the stock unit with a beefier pump?

Assuming you mean for inflating tires, It's pretty easy and inexpensive to install a relatively large compressor, like a Smittybilt 2781, under the hood of a GX. I think the stock compressor would be woefully undersized for airing up tires and take a very, very long time (like 30+ minutes to bump all 4 tires up). Even a basic handheld cordless compressor would probably out-perform the stock compressor. There is a lot more volume to inflate 4 tires relative to two small airbags. Also, a beefier unit will need big wire (like 10 or 8 ga) to avoid blowing fuses or melting, which I'm doubting is in place for the stock compressor.
