hey folks, my lx started to make some noise from the belt, possibly one of the pulleys. Drove it last night and bam, belt broke. Took j Uber to autozone, and got a cheap belt and some tools. At 10pm in the parking lot of some office building, I replaced the belt, was able to drive it home 60 miles. Rig making noise the entire way home. Got a block from home, belt broke again. I replaced the idler and the tensioner pulley. Still burning somewhere. Any idea why it’s burning belts? I’m new to fixing these things, so I apologize if this has been covered some error on this forum.

With the belt off you should be able to turn everything one by one and find which one has a bad bearing.

Also Check for something loose of misaligned.

Thanks. I’m 99% sure the fan pulley seized. Just found a thread very similar to mine.

^^^^^ This. Check everything by 'hand'.

Idler pulley
Tensioner
Fan Bracket
Pwr Steering Pump
A/C compressor clutch
Alternator

IF any feel rough (do not turn smoothly) or wobbly, replace.

Look also to see that none of the pulleys (especially ribbed ones) are rough or damaged.
