Hey everyone, I have a 2000 lx470, and I have been dealing with a squealing serp belt for a while now. It squeals when idling, accelerating, or coasting to a stop. I've noticed that the squeal correlates to a drop in voltage (~12.4 volts), and the squeal goes away when the voltage picks back up after accelerating to normal driving speeds (~13.8 v).

Today it got much worse, and upon further inspection, I noticed that the rubber on one of the belt grooves has been stripped off. It looks like it is leaving the rubber residue on the corresponding groove of the crankshaft pulley.

I replaced the idler pulley, tensioner pulley bearing, fan bracket, and serp belt about a month ago in an attempt to relieve these symptoms. The squeal went away for a while but has now returned to equal or worse levels. It might be worth mentioning that the old belt did not have the rubber stripped from its grooves like the current one does.

Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? I would appreciate any advice y'all have before I start blindly buying new parts.

It would be a good idea to clean all the pulleys of any debris etc. that may be present.

Double check to make sure you have installed the correct belt for your 2000 lx470.

Any chance your alternator or new tension pulley could have a different size pulley than original oem size?

The belt and other parts I put on were OEM. Not sure what alternator the previous owner installed, but it has been on there for as long as I have owned the vehicle and it hasn't given me any issues.
