My truck has been making a noise for a long time however it has gotten worse and more annoying to a point where I want to figure it out. After just fixing the third round of mysterious undercarriage rattle noises, I am determined to get rid of every single chirp whine or squeal.

Only happens within the first couple minutes of starting, especially in cold weather. It will make a whining noise that is sometimes intermittent and goes away quickly after warmed up. Seems as if the noise acts up if the AC is turned on during idle however not always. Wish I had a video or something of it, I will try to take one next time I start her up.

Wish I had more information or could isolate the noise a little more but I will leave this to the mud community for potential answers.

Also, my truck makes some ridiculous ticking upon acceleration especially when cold, any suggestions or fixes?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

The whining noise is likely your transfer case when the the fluid is cold. This is normal.

The ticking noise is likely cracked manifold(s), a typical problem for the 100. When the manifold heats up, the crack swells shut. Very annoying.

Lots of mud discussions on both of your concerns if you search.

S-belt and/or sticky/worn pulley bearing?

:meh: my alternator "whined" for a while before dying. Not clear, it happens while idling? Does it change when turning the wheels while parked? Only happen in motion? Different in different gears?

Belt was changed about 10k miles ago, interesting thought on pullys didnt think of that.

T-case fluid is pretty dirty, going to replace that to see if it helps.

About the tranny, honestly I have no idea. I started driving the truck a couple years ago. The most recent time anything could have been done to the tranny at all would probably have been at the 90k service.

Only heard while idling or at very low speeds. Seems to get a little louder when shifted into reverse to back out of the garage. And I do not believe there is any change in noise when the wheels are turned.

I had this whining noise during cold seasons, and I thought it was because of old transmission and transfer fluids. Changed both fluids, but did not not go away. Now I hear the noise a bit louder, but for shorter period of time (comparing to last cold season). The whine gets suppressed as I drive for a mile or two. I was thinking of changing my differential fluids to see if that changes any thing but had to deal with lots of rusty nuts and bolts.

Any idea what is the best place to look for standard toyotal nuts and bolts (different sizes)?
