Yes-- I remember well in meetings about the location of the CRAWL, Height-etc. controls. I brought this topic up and asked the same question. I think part of the reason the controls were not changed may be due to the design side and the evaluators getting into the pre-production vehicle to late. When I evaluated the prototype it did not have the controls it this fashion. They were toggle switches up high mounted to a metal box. There were no plastic interior parts for that area made yet. Once I tested the actual pre-production model that is when I first noticed how close the cup holders were located. Honestly this is the first I have heard of the controls being replaced, but I am sure people spill coffee! I think it was just to late to change the design going to production. I would be surprised to see the controls actually having to be replaced due to water or coffee? fuses maybe...I guess it possible however.

One thing that I do know is that the wiring systems in the 200 series are extremely well thought out on the durability side.

Here are a few pics of the cage. I don't have dimensions etc.

Is there anything on a Landcruiser that isnt?

drifter thanks for the post as for the switches i think it was repeated exposure to liquids and then the switch gunking up if that sounds right. i really dont think this will be a big issue because the 200 has been out for some time and there would have been more posts or problems reported with this issue of repair.

as for the roll bar thanks i'm always interested where the placement of the bars are b/c these racetrucks are tested so they know better where the strength needs to be added.

beno i forgot to say thanks for posting all of your pics also. ahh japan i have not been there in a long time. your pics brought back many good memories. thanks

This just in

from TRD:

Joe Bacal will be piloting the Lexus LX570 sponsored by Cancer Treatment Centers of America in the 42nd Baja 500 off road race this weekend. This vehicle has strong product and technical support from TRD and Lexus. In addition, several members of the Long Beach Racers support team that will chase Joe as he drives the race solo are TMS or TAPG associates, including Zach Zwillinger, Mark Sasaki, Cesar Tamayo, Bob Ditner, Chris Mann, and myself.

The race should start around 11:30 AM Saturday, and there is a 22 hour time limit to finish. Joe has won the first 2 races of the 2010 SCORE desert series and is working on winning the Stock Full class championship.

The links below lead to live satellite tracking sites that will let you follow Joe's progress around the course. The race vehicle is number 879, and is competing against vehicles numbered 861 through 879.

i wish they made them detachable and replace it with a vent cover instead of driving around town with a black smoke stack on the rig. :hhmm: Or do they and I am just not aware of it?

Did anyone answer mtnbike's question about snorkels or does anybody know if proprietary covers are available? No doubt you could knock one up but I'm thinking a purpose built one might be nicer. Had a look on google without success.

I see. Must be more challenging than it appears.

its not "challenging", just annoying.

You drill it into the A pillar. It's "removable", but just like everything on the truck is "removable". I say if it takes more than 20 minutes to install/remove, it's called permanent! To answer the question, however, no -- it's not designed to be removed. Why would you even want to take off the snorkel? Never know when you're going to need it!

JB,

I am running MasterPull synthetic cable with the original roller fairlead. With the 200, I have only done a few winch "training" recovery's with no issues. But in my former life we have removed a lot of doors, windows, burglar bars and walls with synthetic rope and a roller fairlead.

Have you ran into any issues using the Hawse fairlead with the ARB bumper?

PS. Did you get my PM

Sorry, I did not see your PM. Actually you posted a visitor message and not a PM, but I got it now :)

First the tire question. I'm running a 275/70R18 which is a 33.2" tire. The 285/75R17 is a 33.8" tire. That's a 0.6" difference. As for width, there is a 0.40" (13/32) difference. That's quite a bit wider as tires go.

When my tires were new, I was rubbing on the plastic mud guard on the inside of the tire. I no longer have this problem. You will be cutting it awfully close. I do not know what the rear tire well looks like when fully articulated, but I do not rub. No clue as to clearance. I'd say the best you can do is go to a shop and have them installed and test them out. If they have a ramp, it's easy to find out quickly. If they work, that's the best size for ya'!

You also have a different suspension setup with those ICONS, so who knows.

Now the other question. I have to admit, I've never gotten stuck :) I have never actually used my winch other than for testing. Where I wheel, it's mostly rock and hard surfaces, not mud or water. I personally just like the look of the hawse better. Call me an ass, but I assumed that with the roller fairlead, you were running wire. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with a Hawse, but if you have, please enlighten me. I just assumed synthetic and hawse go together like Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
