Awesome, Mark. I'm curious, how did you navigate that skinny spot in the road without scratching the side of the LC? I'm always interested in how people negotiate various spots and skinny spots like this still have me baffled.

Mark did you wrap your hood? It looks matte.

Yeah… I did that a few months ago. The paint on my hood and roof we’re beginning to fail, so instead of letting it bug me forever or repainting, I had the hood and the entire roof wrapped in matte black. Pretty happy with the way it came out.

Holy USBs Batman. That's a lot of toys plugged in.

Ha... Ya...4 people with iPhones, and my iPad on the dash. :) Usually have short, black cords...but was in a hurry.

I have first-hand experience that it's impossible for the body of Mark's truck to be damaged. He has just the right amount of skill and luck to be invincible.

Next day, we drove them through the mountains above Otay...dropping down to the border fence. If you haven't done this road out of San Diego...you are missing one of the most amazing views in Southern California...

You've got my interest piqued! Tell me more about the specific trail. How, where, length? Looks like a good trip to bring visitors on?

Ya, I actually think it is just about the perfect trail for visitors because it offers just about everything:

*Trail was "Cañon Sin Nombre," and it starts about 13 miles North-East of Ocotillo not far off Interstate 8. We peeled off for a few loops, but not far from that trail as we got a late start. Also... It's a GREAT trail to take mid afternoon until after dark, as you get an amazing darkness in the slightly widened canyon for fantastic sky viewing once your eyes adjust.

*For a great vista, peel off toward "Diablo Drop Off." You can drop off...or loop back (we looped back as it was getting dark, and we stopped for a while to help a broken Jeep.

Cañon Sin Nombre and Diablo Drop Off trails are both in the California edition of Funtreks book.

In just a 13 mile (or so) stretch:
-Steep slot canyons
-Sweeping vistas
-Cactus and ocotillo
-fast-ish flat road portions
-Caves
-Lots of secluded pull-outs in the canyons, and also at the edge of vast views.
All of that in basically one trail/loop.

Heh... Thanks for including "skill" with "luck." :)

No question that coming out unscathed in Hell's Gate involved a good dose of luck. :santa:

Damn that’s clean. I don’t have that kind of patience. I wrapped my light covers so they don’t have a huge Baja Designs logo on them. That’s about the extent of my patience for wrapping things.

The shop gave me a great deal...which I suspect they won't do again now that they realize what a PITA removing and replacing the roof rack is. They also smoothed out the damaged paint. Ton of work. Originally quoted $400...but I gave them $500 out the door. Should have charged me way more--especially for the crazy roof piece.

Oh. I don’t know why but I assumed you did the wrap yourself. Hahaha.

No. Three guys worked on it, and two of them worked more than a day. Total bargain.

Swapped out the F-Sport 22"'s I bought it with for some BFGs on TRD Rock Warriors. Couldn't be happier. Will upload better pics whenever the sun comes out again.

Next step, figure out what to do with the Rock Warrior rings.

@eizenjin91 Have fun in DV! May be worth asking about snow on some of the passes. Shoot me a PM if you need any recommendations, though pretty much every road is amazing.
