How high, when closed, does that sit on whatever rails you are using?

Holds up great. It's 3M body molding tape. The same stuff they use to hold on fenders etc.

3M™ Super Strength Molding Tape | 3M United States

Those tapes are really incredible these days, and completely appropriate for structural use. Heck they put buildings together with tape these days, mounting huge glass panes with nothing more than just that.

Not that you need it, but there are stronger variants of 3M tape: VHB. I also mounted my solar panels to my camper on 6 foot pads, with tape.

See I was going to use VHB! That was my original plan. But I was concerned with the temp limit. 3m says it’s good to I think it was around 115F. Well being in Arizona plus on top of a black metal box I was worried. On the phone 3m recommended the molding tape for the temp. I still think I should’ve used VHB. If it ever starts to have an issue with staying stuck I’ll switch it but it’s pretty solid for now.

VHB has been used on many an RV, including all aluminum Airstreams for years to mount solar panels. Without further fasteners. Usually VHB under the mounting foot, then Sikaflex applied all around it as a sealant to protect the VHB, and as a backup adhesive.

For your low profile panel, you should be fine with the way you have it. If you have any concern, put a bead of Sikaflex 221 on the leading edge of the panel. Heck, Sikaflex would be sufficient alone since your panel lays flush.

Not mine, but very similar install. You can see how VHB under the 4 mounting feet alone is sufficient.

Holy USBs Batman. That's a lot of toys plugged in.

Next day, we drove them through the mountains above Otay...dropping down to the border fence. If you haven't done this road out of San Diego...you are missing one of the most amazing views in Southern California...

Trails drops you right at the border...where we got a first-hand look at the array of Trump Wall prototypes. They absolutely DWARF the useless 8 foot stuff already there. Tons of holes everywhere where people have cut through, etc. Will be interesting to see what happens. I guess the POTUS was here yesterday to inspect...
