20 years ago, i pulled into a quick stop in a small town in northern california with my first fj45 lpb. An excited 20 year old in the parking lot ran up to me and was checking out my truck( it was spring over with 36 swampers) He told me someday he wished his would look the same! I said, yours? He said yeah, i have the same truck( this was when the only 45 for sale was found in toyota trails). This was the first owner i had met who actually had a 45. He lived locally, we said our good buys and over the years i would swing through the town to see if it was there. Last time i saw it was around 2000?. Fast foward 20 years, was up in the same town buying an fj40. I drove around for 15 minutes trying to find it, i gave up and was leaving but had to detour down a street and sure enough, same 45 parked in front of a house!!! I couldnt believe it was still around. Was taking a picture when the owner came out, same guy i talked to 20 years ealier! That detour was devine intervention! Turns out a looming divorce may force a sale. I offered him a good chunk of change on the spot!! We exchanged numbers and he said he might call me . A week goes by and no call, so i decided to call and in 1 minute the 45 was mine! He had numerous offers over the years but i guess mine was a pretty good one. It feels good to have a 45 again, before selling my green truck i had not been without one for 20 years. They are getting hard to find now and really cant believe my luck. It was given to him from his dad who bought it in 1974 and had photos of it when he was 5 years old! Its almost all original, never been rebuilt or restored and driven most of time. It is rust free , no cancer anywhere, a true california survivor. Going to stay as original as Possible but want to do some updates to make it a daily driver. I want to give this one to my son in 10 years for his first truck!

Wow whitey. Wow. You keep digging up the coolest stuff.

Nice score

That is awesome story and an awesome 45. Good for you,and it's great to see that stuff like this still happens.

Now you know how this goes Whitey.

You get to enjoy this this truck for a few years, and do a few upgrades and all. But nothing too far from stock.

And then in a few years, when buddy gets all recovered from the divorce... you need to sell it back to him. That's the cruiser karma way.

Keep looking, the right truck will fall into your lap.

I actually asked him if he was sad to see it go and he said not at all! He has'nt really touched it in the last 10 years and knew he would never get to it. I gave him good money for it and i think that helped, he didnt really know the value, but he liked the offer! Its full circle, now my 6 year old gets to grow up with it! Kevin, love the rubicon pics of your 45 twisted up!

OK. Some guys just know when to let it go, and are glad to pass it on to the right person.

And Rubithon was awesome. I got a couple of scars, but they'll heal.

And chicks dig scars so I've been told.

I'll be watching for the Father and Son 45 Build in 6 years or so.

Damn Whitey, that is cool! Of course when I got mine my kids were small too. Time has a funny way of flying by way too fast. Next year my daughter goes off to college! So what I am getting at is, start building it now so it's ready when he is 14 or so. I guess you will finally stop bugging me to sell mine! Yea right!

Btw, what year is it and what's the vin #?

Ken, its a 65 titled as a 66. Vin# fj45 22234 you need to keep your 45, at your pace it will be a retirement build!! But if you want to sell let me know:D

Nice score Whitey 1226 from mine not as close as the green one, where in the mountains did you get this one if you don't mind saying.

whitey, very nice find. I have here sister from the same area. My 45 is also a 65 titled as a 66 with the brass tag. Four numbers off FJ4522238 how ironic.

Hey whitey, have you ever seen the mirrors that came on my 45? "See previous post" The original owners states that they were on the truck when they bought it new from the Toyota Dealer in the Bay Area.

The original mirror would have been a small round mirror(see vintage photo) It was not uncommon for dealers to add a pass side mirror and put on bigger mirror heads as the original was useless! I dont think they got pass mirrors from the factory. This truck was also factory white! I think it came from sebastopol. It had been in cloverdale since 74!

Here's a few pictures of Her sister doing what she was made to do. Picture taken up in the Sierras near Georgetown Ca.
