1st gen 4Runner gas gauge bouncing (1 Viewer)

Just like it says, my gas gauge "bounces" around the approximate actual level, unless the tank is completely full. Any ideas? I have an 86 4x4 and a 88, and neither of them do this. I replaced the sending unit about 20 years ago, I don't remember why now, with an OEM sender at the dealer. Gauge or sending unit or faulty wiring? Thanks for any help.

HAH! Mine started doing that right after I replaced it. No clue why.

my second gen does the same thing ,started after brutal off road trip .has to be the sending unit
