Anyone want to help us determine the value. We found it under some boxes and blankets in Matthew's garage. It appears to be complete. We also have the transmission and transfer case.

Not sure. Matthew bought and sold Toyota and GM vehicles and sold the parts to support himself. I don't believe he would have purchased the drivetrain of a vehicle if it wasn't any good.

Unless you can prove the tranny and T-case are in running order they are basically scrap. Might get a bit more for it as a core if you have a local place that deals in motor and trans cores.

Motor has value as a core at the least, if it can be proven to run even better. Ask @Rice what he payed for his core, that may give you a better idea.

valid points above on verifying running condition.

still a gamble and a guessing game...... but man i got a ways to go on my part hoarding before i accidentally find a 1fz under some boxes :D

Likely would not have bought it knowing it was bad..... but hes likely going on what someone elses diagnosis of the motors condition. it is out for a reason one way or another. Unless he ran it and had full knowledge of that drivetrain and pulled it for a known reason. As Rice found out buying a good condition used running motor can be a crapshoot and that talking to the folks that ran and removed them.... though its possible the reasons for non disclosure range anywhere between ignorance and deceit.

I sold a good working 1fz with all accessories as a drop in replacement for $450
i was second to marshall for a free one listed on craigs
ive seen and helped a buddy turn down a $900 motor/trans/tcase

lately on mud ive seen 5oo for a filthy dirty runner and 750 as another high mile runner with lots of PM parts.... both pullouts for LS

Id say consider pulling all the sensors and selling may be quicker and less labor/shipping at near the same $
Then a head and a bare longblock for someone to rebuild for their project

or if it needs gone in one fell swoop then toss it up all as one for $500

I would be interested in the serial number on the transmission.... or an year if you can find out.

I will check..My initial search seems to indicate 94". It will be next week before I get back to check

I was guessing 95-97 cause no pair valve visible but it may have not made the transfer.

The ECU numbers should help you narrow down the range as well.

If the intake is laying around you could look for MAF vs VAF setup to help

What others have said. Core value "maybe" $250.

I also think 95 or above. Even if the PAIR valve had been removed the vacuum line for it would be on the front of the head brazed to the throttle body coolant line and it's not there. Look under front of oil pan and see if there is a crank position sensor (not on the 93-94 motors). Depending on what your plans are I am interested in the EGR valve, modulator, and VSV.

Edit .... I do see a couple other items on there that have a little value. The heat shields do not appear to be cracked which is rare. Starter and alternator also of value.

I will be back at their place next week. I will get more ID information

Tom's friend might have pulled it because it didn't run.
Matthew never owned a FJ80 and we haven't found any other parts for one, .....yet. His building are full of smaller stuff with prices marked on them except the motors and transmissions. We found 2- 4 speed 16 spline transmissions yesterday also. 1 GM Hi-Perf big block, 1 SB, and a reconditioned SB, We have a SM 465 transmission and transfer case mated together, and another transmission and transfer case I can't get to yet in order to ID.

Perhaps, but my first guess is this motor was pulled from a vehicle that was being salvaged, otherwise heater line would not have been cut. Trouble is, still no proof.

Is Matthew the guy from Cary? If so, I met him a LONG time ago (maybe 97 / 98) at a parts store when I was trying to find a flasher relay for my 40. He took me to his place and we wired in a generic GM unit. If that's him, I hate to hear he's passed - couldn't have been much older than 50.

Yeap that was him. Same M.O. He helped me with my 1st FJ40 about 20 years ago.

If its a 95 or later, and the price was right, I'd be interested in it, minus engine bits that @Rice doesnt need. I'd put about 200 tops toward it(considering theres no way to know the condition), minus the egr stuff rice would need. (which could be removed back in GSO). If the tranny would work for @jfz80, we can make arrangements to get it.

I've got a borescope camera (Costco has them on sale for 79.00) that could at least yield a look at the piston tops and cyls, and up thru the oil drain plug.

400 is for the motor, trans, and TC, right?

No sir. Just the motor....Matthew's mom is a tough negotiator. I tried telling her that she was going to end up with some awfully big paper wieghts

It's tough negotiating a sale for something you know nothing about. Glws.
