My clutch was sticking about halfway to the floor, but I could pop it back in place with the top of my foot. Turns out, it was a failing slave cylinder. So I replaced the slave & master, and it's back good as new.

My 70 does this and I assumed it was the springs on the pedal were weak

I actually changed the springs on the pedal assist thing, but that didn't help. So I kept digging.

I bet those springs are a bitch to change. Ordering now. Any tips?

I just used a wire coat hanger. Use the loop on the end of the coat hanger to grab the end of the spring and pull down. Popped right off. However, that was after I tried about 5 other ways to get them off with no success.... I haven't changed out the plastic piece yet, so no tips on that.

I was also going to change the spring from the clutch pedal to the firewall, but it's NLA (PN# 90905-07006). So if someone knows of an alternative please let me know.

Hello,

The two tension springs elongate over time. If memory serves, in old age they are up to 5 mm or 3/16 in. longer than new springs.

The other spring is referred to as "tension spring" in the parts catalog. Part number is 90905-07006, and it was available not so long ago when I replaced mine.

A good hook is enough to pull the two tension springs.

The long spring is held in place with two small C-clips. They tend to fly away, and it is good to be careful. It elongates around 3 mm or 1/8 in. over time.

Also, something you should change is the clutch hose. My experience with them is always seeing them dried as hell.

Also, when it comes to replacing the clutch kit, consider the Terrain Tamer HD clutch kit. This thing with 1fz is worth it. It's not stiff or soggy, and you can feel the engine output immediately.
I tried it on 1FZ and 3F

Just been doing a few odds and ends to the truck lately. Got some new tie rod hardware, lug nuts, and did an alignment.

Also, finally recharged the A/C system after replacing most of the major components (see earlier posts). I've never really done any a/c work until this truck, so fortunately, there are several good videos about it. Anyway, the system held a vacuum for about an hour, then I kept the vacuum pump on for another hour to draw out all the air in the system. After that just added the refrigerant. From what I could find online, this system takes between 700-800 grams, or 24.7-28.2 ounces. The R134a refrigerant cans are 12 oz each, so I added just over 2 cans. Worked great, and now I finally have cold air blowing out!

Hey Darren, I know I’m late to the party but Snap On makes a nice tool to straighten those fins on your AC evaporator. Great build and thanks for all the detail shots with part numbers.

Got a Warn M8000-S, Warn offset hawse fairlead (106880) and Factor 55 Ultrahook (00250-04). Also, wired up the new Stedi 7" Type X foglights. And while I was at it, I installed the greatest deal in Toyota parts history, the 81110-60P70 headlight and harness kit.

The 81110-60P70 headlight and harness kit is the greatest Toyota parts deal in history. I've had a set installed forever but I snagged another set as a spare when I could get them from a stealership for $16.00!
