Hey all,
Haven’t been on this site for a couple of years. Good to see it’s still rocking.
Sold my last 94 LC at the Bamako Used Truck Bizarre after the 09 Budapest to Bamako Rally.
I loved that truck and now I want another one.
Saw a 96 LX with 130K, lockers, and a super charger for sale.
Here’s my question…
Does the supercharger add or detract from the mileage, reliability, longevity, and value of this vehicle?
Thanks, and I’ll take my answer off the air.

IMHO anything that adds that much more stress to a motor wont be good for it, but as long as it has been well taken care of and you are compitent with a wrench it should be great. I would take it to a Toyota dealership to have them do a full check up on it before you purchase it. Good luck!!

there are lots of guys on MUD with SC'd rigs. Even CDan's rig is supercharged. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's always good to have a pro take a look at something you are going to spend thousands on. Supercharged or not. My .02...

careful use of the search button yielded me some info. first tried Super Charger and found very little info. took out the space and got plenty.

I didn't know that you needed 91O. Found one post that indicated that milage is about the same. All seem to agree that the boost adds stress to the motor. So I take that to mean that it would reduce life expectancy.

But the added hp/torue seem to outweigh the negatives in the resale equation.

ANY power enhancing mods (supercharger included) WILL add more stress to the engine, BUT the engines in the 80 series LC's handle it well. They are built like tanks.

Life expectancy will be reduced, but not by a huge margin. Take good care of your LC and it will last a long time, even with a supercharger (running factory boost psi).

To the average public, the supercharger does not add any value (in general), but to Land Cruiser fanatics :D it can be a MAJOR bonus, and will add value.

If you have a trusted mechanic, take it to them to check it out or a shop that specializes in LC's.

My 2 cents :)

'96 with lockers and an S/C already installed...that is a great combination to start with for certain.

Depending on the overall condition, service records and asking price, and how much you can haggle with the owner, it may be a great deal...no way to be certain without knowing a bit more.

One thing for sure, the S/C makes the rig go significantly faster when you press the skinny pedal. I smile everytime I see the boost gauge go into the + side of the equation.

I think I know the truck you are talking about, seller is asking $7500 right? I went and take a look at it and was surprised to see it has a locker too! But the truck overall has been neglected. Interior is so dirty (my wife refuse to ride in it on the test drive) with missing panels/covers the carpet is soaking wet and body clading is falling off, the gauge cluster shows 35K miles and the pink slip is missing.

I test drove it and it has a check engine light, seller claims a bad knock sensor. It drove fine but I wouldnt pay more than 4500 for it. If you are serious I took a picture of the vin if you want to pursue it.
