I have access to a 1994 H55F w a t-case (I am assuming a split case but I will check on Monday before I buy it). I am also assuming it is a 1FZE as it’s out of a SA truck and it’s too new for 3Fs.

Can I swap in a 10 spline F/2F/3F input shaft into this late of an H55F? Are the 10 spline shafts easy enough to come by?

eBay and Google say they are not easy to come by. I want to mate the H55F to a F.5/F155 in my 1973 FJ43 (I know I’ll have to mess w the crossmember). From what I understand you can NOT swap in a late 40/60 series H42 shaft into an H55F.

This post has been helpful, but I’m not certain yet. I believe this would be the shaft I’d need…

(New aftermarket 33311-60100/33311-60101/33311-60120 -> 33311-60121, 10/85+, 15mm pilot journal, 32mm seal and low step input bearing journal. 245mm OAL)

the trans may need more than just the input shaft.
do you know first hand the trans and transfer are good?

What are you thinking additionally? I don’t but I will on Monday. I’ll also know the default shaft. I’m about 99% sure it’s 1hz

unless you know the seller and trust them, the trans could have been abused.
or if still in the rig, can it be driven?
syncros, etc, usually not worth rebuilding versus new, cost wise.

Yes, 10 spline input shafts are easy to come by, we have them in stock (part# TRSHFT60121 @ Cruiser Outfitters, we can ship you a handful today :D)

However, we'd really need to know exactly what it was originally mated too in order to determine which bearing retainer it has or will need. They are not all cross-compatible. I also doubt it was mated to a 1FZFE, in SA those would have been H150/H151 in that era.

So helpful, thank you! I’m hoping to pick up a handful of them for personal and commercial purposes haha. I will get more info asap then give you a call. Cheers

I'd verify what they actually are before picking up a handful of them, unless they are super inexpensive. They may be a smoking deal, or scrap metal :D

If they are H55F's from a 1994 era HZJ75 for example, they will have the correct bearing retainer so all you need is the shaft.

Inspecting them today, I’ll look for leaks and check the teeth. Anything else I should pay attention to? - I will get confirmation on the engine there for as well

Which split t-case variant they have, some are more desirable than others. Vacuum versus manual shift 4wd, etc.

Also something I’m going to look into closely, thanks for the heads up! Definitely don’t really want a vac shift. My guess is they’re manual because just about everything they ship down here seems to be as dead simple as humanly possible. For example they only decided dual cylinders, not even boosters yet, were important in the late 70s for the Colombia market. There are essentially 2 types of split t-cases, right? Vac and manual?

Came across this awfully convenient break down from you guys. Beginning to be concerned vac cases were the only thing available after 1990.

Couple notes. That page is old (though information is relevant) and specific to US model Cruisers. In the US the vacuum case came standard on the FJ62 and then the HF2A (non split-case) came out in 1990, we didn't see the split case after that. But globally the split case was used much, much later so it's very possible they are manual 4wd shift t-cases from the 1990's, you'll just need to take a quick look at a photo.

Yes, in simplistic terms there are vacuum and manual 4wd shift, but there are many other changes, ratio, shifter linkage, switches, etc. All are workable for the most part. And, we offer a kit to quickly convert the case to manual should you find it's vacuum:

Excellent, thank you. I spoke with them today. There was a misunderstanding, they were offering up 151s for an 1fz. I giving them the benefit of the doubt they weren’t trying to give me the run around. It’ll take a month for them to secure a H55F from a 3F. My understanding is that’ll have the 10 rough spline shaft, no?

This is very helpful info, thank you. I confirmed that they’re indeed manual split cases but again eyes on will be the only confirmation. Thank you again for all your help. Looking forward to being back in the states and cracking into the conversion.

Cheers, Sawyer

That makes faaaaaaaaar more sense behind a 1FZ.

Yes, you'll need a 10 spline input.

But if they are manual t-cases behind a H151, they may not mount to the H55F. You need the BF1x split t-case variety.
