After driving through water that deep, make sure you check your differential fluids. Hopefully your breathers are up high, clean and functioning! When driving through deep water, the head pressure of the water can force its way past the seals and contaminate bearings and oil. ( I am ssuming "above tire height " to mean about 30-36 inches (just under a meter) deep.

Started to fix the door locks.....hating the aftermarket pump type...too many issues with water/dust

took them off and the amount of grit is obvious

yes i did check the diff breathers when i went in to tackle the fuel tank issue.....they seem high enough to avoid the water pressure pushing water in....but i do intent to change all oils again in the coming weeks or so....just to check if anything shows up from the new to me gearbox and the continuous stalling of the engine during the second leg of our trip....

Im actually arranging with a friend of mine (and wives) to go all the way up to Asmara and down to the town of Musawaa in Eriteria coastline...then back through the coast to Toker (east Sudan) , Port Sudan and back to Khartoum....around 7000km trip (not counting the elevation)...part of it up a 4km terrain elevation ...this is around October in our next Eid holiday (Hajj) ....8-10 days trip hopefully.

So by then i want to make sure everything is working properly and will have hopefully finished my custom center console and interior and did plenty of charity work in the weekends to test the robustness of the cruiser in tough conditions....although the trip is mainly tarmac....but you know how tarmac is in Africa....potholes as big as black holes etc. .... :D

wish me luck :D

tested the electric motors on the door locks...work great....im surprised why the PO installed those pneumatic pump type locks.....oooh wait...the wiring was dreadful.....wasnt that why i started this thread initially

Great build up Moe. Your determination & enginuity despite the lack of equipment is inspiring.
I think your cruiser will serve you well for many years after the effort you put in to resurrect it.

thank you @BOOSTED80 .... you guys keep me going

im currently on the Diesel tech pages trying to get my pump to give me more power. Will be back once that is done to continue on the interior.

wish me luck

Hi everyone....bad news im afraid :(
due to my father's stroke and a need for an operation in Egypt, i will most probably have to sell the Zombie. Im trying other avenues to get access to the required funds with my brothers, but will have to work something out before the 8th.....luckily, the 80 will sell the moment i park it in front of an auction/car sales place. So leaving that as my last option.

Thank you everyone for being so helpful..and i hope things will work out better...else...i hope to own another 80 (worst case a 60) again soon.

prayers for my dad...thank you all again.

Wishing your father the best and I hope he has a speedy recovery. I'm sorry to hear about the lack of funds, I know all to well what that's like. My 80 is also up for sale/trade due to medical issues...Family always comes first, there's plenty of other 80's out there and you should be able to get a great profit off of it.

Hope he has a speedy recovery & you don't have to sell your 80..but yeah family & health come first , material things can be replaced.

Praying for your Father. We must do what we must do sometimes....

thank you guys....yes family does come first...and we believe that parents are a gateway to heaven...that creates a greater priority than owning an 80.
being part of this community has really helped me learn...not only about the land cruiser....but the generosity and kindness from all who comment and provide advice.

Hope that things clear up this week and will definitely keep you posted.

@Expedition94 .... i hope that you wont have to part with yours... will pray for you.

P.S. i have been nominated by the company to attend the IBC convention in Amsterdam from 12th to 17th this month, God willing.....i really do hope to meet a mudder there...will have to go to Cairo on the 8th to see my father and then off to Amsterdam....:D

Ditto

Somebody should set up a gofundme for this guy
I would contribute! Set it up! @Impreza

Guys...I really appreciate the kind gesture...but im sure I will find a way...but maybe someone else could use your contributions.

I only posted that up because of how much interest and advice this thread has received. And how much everyone seems to keep me going.

Your prayers is all I can ask for....and as Arnold Swarzneger said.... I'll be back ....God willing

Thank you

Good Luck Moe!

What treatment has your father had for the stroke? Do they do the clot buster medications there?

I wish you all the best! Our prayers for you and your father!

Good luck Moe. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Not sure what they have given him, but will be going on the 8th hopefully. They do have clot busters..but I think my dad's age is a factor....wil ask and update u

Thank you ...great to have ur prayers

thank you guys...

so far...i have managed to get money to cover my mum's and brother's tickets and some of the living expenses there...guess all the prayers and good wishes have somehow led their way to us....most probably we won't have to sell anything...expenses in Egypt are not much compared to our Sudanese Pounds...but will have to see how much time my father will need to be hospitalized and medication etc.

regarding selling the cruiser....i did go to show it to a few buyers....their main question was .."did the car flip over??"...because i had removed the headliner, they all thought it was done because of body maintenance to the roof and pillars.....one guy asked me...."Why is the window control in the center??"...i told him my initial plan....so they immediately ticked it off as a 'converted car'....which literally means....something BIG is wrong with it....how much more depressing can we get in this part of the world :(

i bought it in March 2013 for the equivalent of US$20,000....the original PO (number 1 of the 5) said he will pay what he sold it for at the time....which is equivalent to US$10000 .....i DID not reply verbally...but in my mind i did recall just how much i put in to it in time alone...let alone the kindness of @scottryana and @Boltripper ...the engine overhaul.....the new gearbox...the tires...body work....light upgrade...and just politely declined his 'kind' gesture.

Thank you all for your support....please keep us in your prayers.
