OMG I didn't realize that those would be that much over there! However, I also don't know what the income levels are accordingly... Everything is relative.

I know what you mean about the "converted" or "custom" vehicle. They really are NOT worth more to someone new than they are to us.

Good luck with all!

Custom tax for importing cars here is as high as 120% of car cost....PLUS....a 'per year old fine' for any car 6 years and older...with this in mind...a STANDARD Hyundai Accent 2014 costs around US$17,000 ..... a 2014 V6 Diesel Landcruiser is around US$130,000....this is besides the registration and insurance fees.

The dollar has increased almost 4 fold since 2012...from 2.6 Sudanese to 9.5 per dollar these days......of course these are black market prices because only 'the few' have access to the bank rate of 5.7

i bought mine for 68,000 Sudanese pounds....and now can sell for around 160,000.....unfortunately....this is a DECREASE in value compared to the Dollar...from around US$20,000 to US$17,000 approx.....WELCOME TO AFRICA

income levels are pretty low except in petroleum and telecom...and only for high level management.... a typical engineer/accountant salary here is around 3,000 per month...almost US$320...managers get around US$2000-4000...... care takers, drivers, maids barely receive US$100

inflation has increased to almost 43% since last year...so...life is hard here....almost everyone has at least 2 or 3 jobs....employee, driver and some side trading of some sorts

helloooooooooooooooo everyone

been away for soo long i forgot where i got my inspiration from....no i didnt join ISIS or went to Somalia....just been fixing up the house for my parent's return....

cruiser has been used literally as a doney to haul everything from cement, paint and wood...:deadhorse:..rear right brake needs new mirror and pads...number 3 injector needs a new bolt....water pump busted..got new one and had to learn how to time the cams etc...had to just install a wood nail on the rear brake hose to stop fluid seeping out...cant do anything on it for the next few weeks.

been really busy and very offline from anything net related.....glad to be back.....but no comments, replies...anything :(:crybaby:

these days i have literally become Bob the builder.....paint....electrical and carpentry around the house.....got myself a new router and circular saw and built a home made saw table.....will start on the interior once i get my mums kitchen installed....going for that console :D...doing a wood model for now till i can get good quality sheet metal for security.

Good to hear you're still out there!

I have finally made progress on mine. Got a LOT of work done on it. Still much to go, but keeping fingers crossed it will make it through winter without anything more serious!

Hey Moe,

glad you're back. Sounds like you're up to your eyes in work/life. I hope (for you and your country) that the economy turns around for you and leadership is strong. I can't imagine 43% inflation, that has to be crippling. Keep faith and find a hobby (ie. Land Cruiser) to take your mind off of the struggles and we'll all keep praying that you make it through easily. Good luck with your carpentry and your parents move.

so...after a looooong time away from getting any serious work done...im back

went to check my injector nozzle spray pattern and found i was literally driving with only 3 cylinders....two nozzles were barely spraying and one injector wasnt seated properly....pulled out it was covered in diesel not carbon residue like the others.

cleaned, tested, new pins etc....once i got to installing them...found that the holes the injector bolts hold on to were ALL either cracked, forced different size bolts in or were actually WELDED...yes...welded on.

So...decided...i need a new HG anyways after the heating the car took when the water pump blew.

keep following....will post pics tomorrow once i get the cylinder head off.

question: do i need to remove the camshaft, springs, shims and valves or will the head just come off with them intact?
i cant spend more money getting new valves etc at the current time....injectors alone cost me plenty and i still have to get the pump checked..besides the head gasket, a couple of bolts here and there and of course new hoses everywhere.

May want to post that question in the diesel section for a faster response.

I assume the architecture of your motor is similar to the DOHC in our 1FZ petrol motors. If thats the case the cams have to come out in order to get to the head bolts, but the shims and valves and what not can just stay in the head.

Did you try cleaning your injectors with some kerosene, compressed air, and a 9v battery ?

got me a whole bunch of tools and spares (Torque wrench, valve extractor, pulley extractor, 6ton jack stands, file set, brass brush set, die and tap set, valve grind, RVT, silicon, grease, HG, hoses etc etc etc)....now....where do i start :D
doing valves then the HG...fixed injectors (some cleaning, some needed new pins)...just taking it VEEEEEEEEEEEERY slow

cam had to come out....otherwise the a couple of valves will be open and may get bend or damaged.

removed the head....took it to fabricators to fix the cracked bolt slots...NON were able to give me a convincing method for them to weld it up and rethread it.....so.....as usual....Hajji style.....went got me a few steel bolts....cut off the heads (at the fabricators) and got them slightly hammered into the old slots...then welded the hell out of them.....perfect fit...excellent alignment...and now the injectors sit comfortably. Pics to come

Now i want to re seat the valve 'while im in there'...did i mention i also bought a micrometer :D

as i said at the start of this thread.....learning my LC step by step.

Thanks guys...i really dont know where i would be without this site and fellow mudders.

the great thing here is tradition....wifey 1 month away from delivery...and here they like to do some 'women' stuff and preparation prior to delivery....off to her mums house. FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOM

now i can spread things around the house without any eye balling me etc. :D...for a whoooooooooooooooole month....

my injectors are mechanical...they open and close based on pressure from the pump....but i did clean them up at a dedicated shop and tested...worked fantastic.

Just finished reading your thread, and have to say its very inspirational. Even with all the odd stacked against you as far as parts availability you managed to build an awsome truck, I actually realised i need to stop complaining when i have to wait a few days to get bits and peices i order lol, I take way to many things for granted!
Anyway, enjoyed the journey so far Moe, keep the posts coming ;)

question....

you know i did the engine rebuild at a workshop a few months back ...now with the head off...would i need to re-mill the head/block.????

can i just use a razor to remove the old gasket remains (not much) and then possibly use high grade sandpaper to smooth it out??? or just razor blade it.....keeping in mind i found the old Head gasket is same number as new one (number 5).

when it over heated i did not drive it long...and was at night...maybe less than 10km at low speed...
