"State of the Art" assembly line. :)

I have a slight shimmy between 90-100kph that remains even after wheel balancing so it's time for more trouble shooting.

So far everything looks practically new although there is some wear in the tie rod ends.

My first opportunity to see those mystical electric hubs.

The mechanism to allow one to depress

the brushes for re-installation is actually quite ingenious.

New tie rod ends have been ordered. Hopefully it cures the "shimmy". No other component seemed at fault.

Are you sure that shimmy isn't just you getting nervous at such high speeds?

I've owned a number of diesel Land Cruisers so operating in the "high speed regime" is something I'm accustomed too.

May have an issue with one of these. Any recommendations on converting them to manual locking hubs?

Swap the parts wheel hubs outwards from an FJ60 and run some Aisin manual hubs, otherwise you will need an adapter. Radd Cruisers has them. I would also call them and ask about the swap, they have been doing it a lot longer than us. I believe he sells the Manual hubs too. I like the idea of swapping the wheel hub parts rather than an adapter solely for the ability to use a Terrain Tamer knuckle kit. The kit has a good reputation and it comes with the two half moon shaped covers that are normally required to be reused from your original stuff. So no more cleaning and repainting old parts, just new bling. The adapters are of course an easy button option. If you decide to swap wheel hubs, try Jim's Yoda yard in Denver for parts. The only draw back I see to swapping wheel hubs is cost. I know the FJ40 guys are always hunting the entire front knuckles, arms, brakes, etc. from the FJ60 for a front disk conversion. As a result, Jim likes to sell the complete axle minus the pumpkin. However, you might score one with a set of Aisin hubs on it too, making it more affordable when you compare the adapter costs with a set of new Aisin Hubs. I think the axles sell for around $600.00. For shipping purposes, he might strip it down for you too so you don't have to ship the whole axle.

Thanks for the information. Some of the electrical components on my left hub were damaged at some point and the locking function was questionable at best. Rob was able to correct the damage and both hubs are now functioning properly but the long term viability may still be an issue.

I did this when I swapped the electric locking hubs from an e-locked axle I installed briefly on my BJ70 and the spindles also need to be swapped from a 60-series (or from a non-electric 70-series). The spindles are different from an e-locking hub vs. a manual locking hub configuration, but they bolt the same way to the knuckle assembly (the only thing is that you will need to plug with silicon or something the hole on the knuckle where the power wires feed the electric locking hubs). It is really not complicated, but like @broth9640 mentioned, cost is a factor to be considered.

Since I drive diesel Cruisers that seem to struggle with acceleration, I decided to convert my Honda over the KM/H so I could see some real speed. :)

Soon after I sold my HJ75 Ute I realized how difficult life could be without the versatility of a pickup. That dilemma has now been rectified. :)

I'm already spending money like a drunken sailor on shore leave on rabbit hole #1. (The 77 Series)

Well it's been fun. I guess you'll be spending all your time over here with your newest project. We're gonna miss Charles!
